If you look back for a couple of years
The coastal areas of Bangladesh has seen disaster after disaster
Starting from Hurricane Nargis, Aila or Sidr
All that was left behind was the ruins
It was the biggest challenge to get these people back to their normal lives
Men could go to the capital and look for work
But it was the women who were left behind with no skill & opportunity
If you look at the news footage
Despite the destruction, you will see the answer right there
The coastal areas have coconut trees everywhere and that's how we got the idea
Cocopower. A women focused FMCG producer who focuses on producing coconut milk
We train poor women from disaster prone coastal areas in our facility
And provide them with raw materials and necessary equipment to make the coconut milk
The production procedure is quite easy
You scrape the coconut, boil water, mix and stir, and finally filter
The milk is then packed using an automatic packing machine and sold door-ot-door on a subscriber basis
We chose coconut milk for a reason
It has a high demand in the local areas
It's used in local cuisines from hotels to restaurants and has to be prepared manually, everyday
We train the women. We give them a job, i.e. a secure source of income
We even provide daycare for their children
Lastly we give them the coconut husk leftovers, which they can sell for some extra money
Our plan is very simple and easily implementable
We only use procedures and utensils that these women are used to
Even our facility is located nearby their residences
Moreover, this plan can be implemented anywhere where coconuts are available
Let it be the coastal areas of Bangladesh, India or Sri Lanka
This plan has the global potential to empower millions of women
Only using a single gift of nature, A Coconut
