I think that music and my music as well
has been like a bridge between
the various ways of expression in music
from film music to concert music
and also music written for great artists,
and sacred music, being able to express
sacred music and the its contents
in different languages and this made it possible
to enter into areas which were not normally
accessible to go to,
this could be the reason why
my music is known, sung and played a lot.
Sacred music has a great importance
even today, even if contemporary world seem to be very distracted
and distanced from the sacred because of the necessity within man's heart
to find again the sense of one's life, prayer, God and his presence.
And so music is a weapon which
gives the opportunity
to penetrate everywhere. It doesn't need translation,
it doesn't need a language of its own, the language of music is truly universal.
And humanity needs that music
helps them to find the supernatural and the spiritual dimension.
I think that today, sacred music
can be an element
which could unite man in their encounter.
I had some opportunities
to encounter the world of Pop,
singers and composers even for discography projects.
Pop music and culture
as the word Pop implies is a mass culture
and sometimes there is the possibility
for this mass-culture to experiment something higher.
In my opinion sacred music, with its universal capability,
may encounter with certain Pop genres.
Clearly Pop music is linked to a certain type of language
and so with some precautions
and so with some precautions
one can use the sacred,
trying to be respectful to the meaning of sacred music
and also that of Pop.
We must always take in consideration
the end of everything and ask what is their goal?
Music in liturgy has a particular end, the praise of God
and the sanctification of our brothers
and therefore has a precise task, and cannot therefore
be the same as secular music or mundane music.
While this is the scope of music within the liturgy
and outside liturgy
it can serve as an encounter with God even through poetry
and meditation.
It can be an instrument which helps us
to experiment, through emotions,
the meaning of life.
And therefore I think
that have to be able to distinguish
between what music genre one uses.
In liturgy music must never be boring, because when
one is praising God, one praises Him with joy, all the psalms say this
"Praise the Lord with Joy, with enthusiasm"
and thus this
praise must be authentic praise
and at the same time a praise to God, and not a sort of
pagan feast. No?
And therefore be able
to distinguish
the music genre that one uses,
because music, like words,
according to what we say,
will have an effect.
And therefore according to which music we use will have particular effect.
Thank you
