Today was the first day out on the water for this autumn, and we've all tried to remember
what actually happened last autumn. What we were lucky enough to experience is not an
every day thing, and we feel very fortunate.
I just have a big mess of all happy moments from last years trip in my head right now.
It's for sure days to remember.
Should we put her in?
Yes
What happened up there is impossible to explain. There's no way to tell the tale rightfully
since I know that was the first, and the last time, i'll experience something like it.
Well, the autumn came to Jönköping.
The nature changed in so many ways, the trees got their beautiful colors and,
well it felt like the nature came back to life.
Autumn is the time of year all of us who likes fishing are waiting for, it's the time when
all the magic happens. The nature becomes even more beautiful, the trout spawns in all
the small creeks, the char approaches land and tries to find a mate.
The roach gather sin big shoals on certain places...
...and that's of course were you find the pike.
For the common people, the autumn might seem like a cold, windy and altogether a quite
boring season... ...but not for the pike hunter. Thats prime time for big pike!
Pike itself is indeed a killer. He's fast, he's got lots of teeth and large eyes.
It's a predator who flogs everything in Swedish waters.
You could resemble the pike at crocodiles, they live in the same way, they hunt the same way.
They can be seen as standing for several weeks. They are waiting for that moment for one quick attack.
We have another one!
There the float came up, but it looks as if there is a fish still on right?
What the hell, didn't i crank the brake?
Is it the Biggun?
Nah not really.
It's a five-kilo fish anyways
Yeah, there's that smile!
Float trolling as a method, it is way too good not to use it.
You are fishing with live bait, you cover quite large areas very effectively and...
...save your body. If necessary, you can safely fish for ten days at a time.
Here's a big tackle, do you think i should use the biggest roach now?
Yeah go ahead!
Flötestrolling in all, this is a lot of planning. You can not just jump in the boat and believe
that you will get big fish. It's quite laid back once you're out there and fish but preparation
is always huge, I would say. First you get good bait fish, and I don't mean 10 centimeter
roaches, it's at least fifteen centimeters we're talking about.
But it's not only the roaches that we are planning. It's weather and winds, the places, and all that bit too.
When we go for float trolling, we always choose places where there is food for the pike.
It is the absolute first thing to consider when looking for pike.
It is very rare there are big pike in areas where there swims some food for pike.
The second thing we think about is the weather, that you go out when you have good conditions.
You can not get a big pike when it's dead calm and sunny. Well, at least the chances decrease drastically.
A little over six.
It struck just when you began to reel in it?
I was checking the rod and then he took the bait.
There's another one!
Yeah i think so!
Nah, I lost it.
Did you feel it at least?
Yep, it wasn't a small fish.
Hooked too early, big sized roach and too few hooks.
They are biting atleast!
The conditions were optimal, partly cloudy, high winds, and we had plenty of bait fish.
So we drove on. And in the end it gave us some results.
I remember it was windy as hell just as the take came.
I'll take it now then!
Nah I lost it!
No, there it is!
Holy crap!
She's got a really big head.
Yes!
Then we landed it. 10.2 kg!
Hundred and...
well I dont know how long she was. We did not measure it.
And there she goes!
Magical!
Today's biggest, 8.2 kilos. My second pike for the fall season. Heaps of fun!
We have nothing to measure with but about 110 centimeters.
After two small ones, I got a better fish, about 8.
It was fun. But you've got a little different perspective on a big fish from last
year. One eight-kilos for me last year was the best that could happen but since what
we saw last fall this is nothing. It is always appreciated but there is something missing.
We've seen better.
Only smaller today. Today's biggest, maybe two kilos. Last time there was no one under
five. There's a difference. It's probably the cold...
I'll take it!
Do it!
No big this time either!
Now, the season has been on for more than a month. We have had quite good fishing.
Some days have been really good, others, or quite a few actually have been really bad.
It's a bit frustrating. We have had a nice fish or two.
But it feels like it's time for a change, we need to do something new.
I think we have to hit the road, try some new waters.
We will try a different kind of lake, it is a lot deeper than the ones we have been in so far.
The fishing is very different, with focus on pelagic fishing. We will sweep the roaches at two meters deep...
...over 30 meter deep water.
We've been there once before and had absolutely magical results.
We got four fish were two of them were over ten kilos.
So the expectations are now clearly on top now.
Yes, we have now arrived at the lake and I can already smell sucess. Tonight, however,
it has been very cold and we have not a cloud in the sky. Fishing today may not be the best,
but we know that the heat is on its way and the clouds as well. Within the next few days,
we will probably have much better fishing coming in than what we have today.
We'll take this day off, grill some burgers and enjoy the sun.
This fishing trip we have with us our childhood friend Christopher. He's a really well qualified
pike fisherman. He has got many 10-kilo fish on his conscience.
He's the kind of fisherman who can walk fifty kilometers with a 20 kg pack on his back to get to a good pike spot.
I'm really looking forward to fishing with him for a few days now.
When the boys called and asked if I wanted to go on this trip with them I had no difficult
decision to make. I knew they had caught big pike there before and thought that this time
would be no different. I love going away for a few days, aim for the big pikes and really
put everything into the fishing. It is usually when one succeeds best as well.
Especially if you have the right conditions, as we do now.
The fishing in this lake is very different from home.
There we have a shallow lake with many takes, often over ten per day but with a low average weight.
Here we have fewer strikes but with ridiculously high average weight.
At the first day's end, we could look back on a pretty poor number of pikes.
However, we saw that the weather was going to turn. It was still warm in the air but the clouds
came and with that, the wind.
We could already feel that this could be our key to success.
A take!
I think I'll take it in a second here.
Yes, it is taking line!
When I hook the fish it feels quite small. It makes them small wobbles as the small pikes often do.
There was no clear indication that it would be over ten kilos at all.
It is difficult to determine the size , but it's fish at least!
It feels ...
Nah , it 's too hard to guess.
Later it turns out after all that weight comes closer to the boat.
***!
What the hell is happening!?
This is sick! I'm getting nervous for real!
It can't be small now!
My left leg is shaking like hell! This is totally sick!
Wait, he goes under the boat, stop the engine for a second!
***!
Oh Satan!
Oh ***!
Turn off the engine for *** sake!
It is fifteen kilos plus at least!
Holy ***, what a pike ! *** what a pike!
Are you kidding or what?
This is the biggest pike I've ever seen! It's a personal best for the heck!
This is so sick! I have no idea where it is. It's so heavy, I can't believe it.
I'm so nervous right now it's crazy!
Oh ***!
This is totally sick! This is totally sick!!!
I feel like i'm going to have a panic attack!
This is the biggest pike I have ever seen,
I HAVE EVER SEEN!
I remember so well when Ludde says "this is guaranteed fish". Given that it is 40 meters deep so
it was a little shaky in the legs. And my first fifteen kilo fish was landed!
15.1!
Yeeeeees!
This is crazy! 15.1!
15.1 kilos, 121 centimeters, it's even too heavy for me to lift it.
It took a huge float trolled roach, and I'm happy. My life is *** complete.
And now she'll get to go back!
It is sooo massive, this is completely insane.
It's like a freaking crocodile!
That night we had only one thing in mind. We sat down and looked through all the clips
and realized that what we experienced was crazy!
It did not take long before we opened the first brew. And that's how rolled the rest of the night.
Next morning I woke up on the toilet floor at seven thirty or so. Fumbled my way up to the room and immediately...
...the wake up alarm goes off for Ludde. We ask ourselves then, should we really go out?
We talk back and forth for a while and realizes that of course we have to get out there again.
And now, a few days later, we are quite happy about that decision since what happens next is just sick...
Holy ***, what the *** is going on?
Yes it is there, it is on!
Damn hard to know whether it is big or small.
Feels like i'm stuck in the bottom.
Hmm, it 's probably a little nicer one!
Yes it is clearly of the heavier type!
Probably a better fish!
It 's crazy, it just goes on and on!
I have not even gotten it up to the surface yet!
This is heavy, I can tell you that Ludde.
It feels without exaggeration about that same class as the one from yesterday.
Oh hell no, remove your rod Ludde! Nooo ***!
Oh no no no, damn it! Remove it now!
Holy ***, I got really scared there for a while.
It felt so weird at first but now!
It is heavy for real.
It's so heavy! It 's crazy.
This must be a tenner.
I can not get it up to the surface. He won't go up!
Wooooow , oh damn, AGAIN!
This is so sick! Damn what a fish!
It looks longer and bigger!
It is bigger! For real!
It is longer too!
But it is not quite as massive thou!
Oh devil what a pike!
Oh damn my eyes are popping out!
Oh holy ***!
This is crazy!
This is over fourteen!
This is totally insane!
Damn what fish!
It is larger than yesterday!
It's *** better than yesterday! For real!?
Can you land this? I don't have the guts!
Oh *** what a fillet!
It's *** gross! It's so sick!
Oh ***, it is bigger... It's not quite as bold as the one yesterday thou.
Take it easy now, this one is really big.
It's probably clear for landing now.
It's crazy if you've seen one fifteen-kilo fish yesterday, saying that this is a biggun.
I don't believe it's bigger than yesterday but it is probably the same class.
No, damn it!
Holy ***! That's not good!
Oh ***, this one is BIG! It is sick!
This is a gill cover that is out of this world! It is like a cow skull sitting on the fish.
WOOOOW! It is equally big as the other one, NO IT IS BIGGER! It is *** bigger!
It is longer, much longer.
It's like a train that never ends, it's a never ending story that slides up over the rail.
NO! THIS CANT BE TRUE!
It is 137 centimeters tall! WHAAAT?
It is 138!
You must tighten the tape measure. Do you have it at zero now? Tension then!
It is you who need to tighten it. Is the tense now? It is between 137.5 and 138 centimeters!
What is the scale on? It's over eighteen...
IT'S OVER EIGHTEEN! WHAAAT?
This is so sick! What the hell is happening to my life? What the *** is happening?
People have asked me how it feels to have an eighteen kilo fish in my arms.
Well, it is absolutely indescribable. The boat is as wide as the pike is long, it's like having a baby
in your arms, or a child. Almost like an adult.
This is a pig...
18.05 kg is the weight set to now, it is 137 to 138 centimeters long.
Large roach once more. A tremendous effort to catch big pike has paid off.
15.1 yesterday, 18.05 today.
What more can you need? I've gotten more than I wished for.
And now we'll let her go!
I don't believe that I will get to experience something like that ever again.
This is a once in a life time experience.
But sometimes you get some luck in there. It's the combination between luck and opportunitys well taken.
It was not more than five minutes left on the trip, the last hot spot, then my float sinks...
The last take, last day. Come on now! Please!
It is a calm one.
I feel on the strike that this is a bigger fish.
It's a tenner! Could be!
I do not think I will be a part of something like this again. But one can dream...
The feat of Christopher managing to take two pikes over fifteen kilos in two days of fishing,
it's indescribable, it is absolutely amazing and crazy at the same time.
Oooh, this is so nice! Oh I really enjoy this! It's a big one!
It's taking line so damn fine it here.
It is a biggun!
It saved the entire trip for me!
I've always hoped to see a big pike in my life, but to see a pike of eighteen kilos like this, that's just sick.
There are still bigger pike in Sweden, and we will continue to hunt them.
It does not stop with this, it is a life-long quest we are doing.
So justit's just to recharge and go on hunting.
