Although Tuhoe Treaty claims remain unsettled,
the people of Tuhoe continue to restore their people,
their culture and their treasures, and their Tuhoe-ness.
At the break of dawn a call of welcome is extended by Tuhoe
to gather under the roof of this museum to view the sacred artefacts
and taonga of Tuhoe brought here from museums throughout the country.
To make the world aware of our people,
of our aspirations, of our lives.
It resonates throughout the lands of Tuhoe
and imbued in its past leaders, the draw of the land will not tire.
We must support the pending completion of the Tuhoe claim,
but the Crown's back track were the cause of this exhibition.
This book holds the accounts of Tomairangi o te Aroha Judith Binney
who strongly supported the Tuhoe claim.
Her death has also been a contribution
to the delay in the settlement.
The exhibition is open to all
to come to see and hear the origins of Tuhoe.
And in Easter we celebrate the Tuhoe Festival.
They saw the unity of the people through land
and through sovereignty.
A celebration instigated by elders of Tuhoe
to unify the many strands of Tuhoe spread throughout the world.
This year they celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Tuhoe Festival.
