In the New Testament we have signs like baptism
and communion, these signs and seals,
a sign points to something as true and a seal assures us
that it's true.
A sign points to something that's true,
a seal assures us that it's true.
And in the New Testament we have a sign and a seal,
one that is for individuals and one that is for us
to separate corporately.
Baptism is for the individual to say I believe this
and I declare it and physically I participate in something
that points to the reality that I am cleansed
and I have died to my old life and risen again
to a new and a fresh start.
A baptism becomes and a seal of God's guarantee,
it's pointing to the fact that this is a done deal,
we don't have to be baptised again and again and again.
And so the individual gets to participate that way
and communion or the Eucharist to the Lord's Supper
becomes the communal sign and seal
that points to the death of Jesus
as cutting The New Covenant, this is the New Covenant
in my blood and we together participate in this.
And these are the gifts to us but neither of them save us,
neither of them make it true, they point to the reality
that is a spiritual truth.
