Ah, Diablo 3... Love it or hate it - it broke global records.
As you are probably aware by now - I'm a Blizzard fan; Lost Viking was one of the earliest games
I've played, and I've been enamoured with the studio ever since.
One of Diablo 3's most prominent features is the deeply varied skill system. Builds
can be customized to an outstanding degree, due to a wide range of available skill choices,
each of which is valid to pick and viable to play. On top of that - each skill can be
customized with one out of 5 runes, often fundamentally altering the way it functions.
That's part one of the backstory. Part two is that I have felt a very visceral bond with
the female demon hunter ever since the reveal trailer. Think of it what you will.
The demon hunter utilizes 2 class resources, and therefore has her skills devided between
discipline-based, hatred-generating, and hatred-spending. Here comes the insanity - an idea popped into
my mind, somewhat fueled by early accusations of insufficient customization... I figured
that I could try to play my demon hunter with a randomly generated set of skills. Skills
that I would MAKE work together, no matter how unlikely the combo.
As time went on, my plan refined into beating Hell, and - later - Inferno difficulty with
such an assortment of skills, changing the combination after each quest. With the ambition
came the idea of allowing myself a single skill pick each time, with everything else
being random. I planned on never picking the same skill again, but all it was was an excuse
to pick Vault for the second act boss fight... and possibly Smoke Screen for the Rakanoth
encounter... maybe something like Shadow Power for Diablo.
The current plan is as follows: no free picks, everything is random, the diffuculty is "Torment
1". I get to pick which skill goes under which key, but that's merely an interface convenience,
nothing more. This self-imposed challenge shall be called
"Luck of the Draw", and I'll gladly extend it to each new hero class as I eventually
get around to play them all. Do not hold your collective breaths...
As always - I hope you'll enjoy the videos. Oh, one last thing - the commentary will not
be "served cold"; everything beyond the initial skill summary shall be recorded live, as a
compromise between commentary and convenience. It shall be a lot sparser than what you're
used to, but it's a clear necessity for many reasons. I hope it doesn't spoil your fun.
Bye, guys!
