what do you do when you want to use video from a Youtube in your PowerPoint
presentation?
The older versions of PowerPoint allowed you to embed the YouTube video directly
from the insert
toolbar in PowerPoint - however the newer versions
don't have that option. You can't download the file but you can insert it as
a flash file with a few simple steps.
You'll be using Visual Basic - don't be afraid! it's easy
Let's find the YouTube video
that you want to embed. this is the one we are going to use
now we're going to copy
the URL (control+ C)
to copy. then we're going to open our notebook
and will paste the URL here. now this is the URL that we are going to embed into
PowerPoint. However have we can't use it
as it is. We're going to have to do a little bit editing. we will take the word "watch
and the question mark (?) .Delete it.
and then take that equal sign (=), highlight that
and we're going to delete it and replace it with
a forward slash. (/)
this edited URL will allow you to embed the video
in a player with the start button. That way when you arrive at your slide
you must click it to start the movie. if want it to play automatically
upon opening your slide then you'll need to add the following to the end of the
string
of the URL. Type (&autoplay=1)
so now we can minimize this window
we can close out the Explorer window
Go back to the PowerPoint. for this lesson I will assume that you already
have a PowerPoint presentation ready to go. you just want to insert
a YouTube video into it. So this is the slide where we want to insert the video.
You can't directly go to insert. we're going to have to go through
Visual Basic
through the Developer tab. If you notice we don't have a Developer tab
So first we need to show that. Select File.
Click on "Options" - Customize Ribbon -
Go to the right hand side.
It is is an alphabetical order. Notice how "Developer" is not clicked.
Click "developer". Select OK.
now the Developer tab appears top.
if you click the Developer tab you will see there are several new options available
to us in this display
and we're looking for the icon of the hammer and wrench which is for more controls.
click on that. again this is an alphabetical order.
Look for shockwave flash object.
Find it. Select it.
Click OK.
your mouse cursor has now turned into a cross hatch
this is where we're going to embed the video. first you need to make a window for
it.
so if you click and hold and drag about the size that you want your video to
play
release... and you have a white window with an
X in it. we can move this around as needed
and place it where you want it. Now you need to tell the window what it is going to play.
in order to do that we go back to our notepad.
select the edited URL (control + C to copy it)
we can minimize this. Go in to the window where we want the video
Right Click. Select"Properties".
Select 'Movie"
Then "Control-P" to Paste
Close. Now we have changed the properties of this window to play
our YouTube video but we're not seeing it until we go to the slideshow
view. So click on "slideshow view", then click "play from current slide"
and notice how our video player plays, and it plays automatically because we have
given it
the instructions to autoplay. So now you
you've got a taste using Visual Basic from Microsoft
relatively easy to learn programming language
