Years ago, payments would have been sent over a three or four day value, now payments need to be received in a beneficiary bank within hours of an
instruction being sent into payments department.
A typical day involves looking at the previous days work, after that will start processing the payments that come in, to make sure that everything
is done as soon as possible.
I think our department plays a central role in Ulster's Bank's performance we deal in payments from very small amounts up to hundreds of millions on a daily basis.
We're definitely a global department, we send payments all over the world, if our department isn't performing the payments aren't getting there. Customers on
the beneficiary side don't receive any funds it results in delays in shipments being sent out and accounts being left overdrawn.
I suppose we're the final link in the chain for clients and customers.
I like the fact that everyday is different your constantly learning new ways of making payments and new ways of looking at how the payments are processed. You
get a good perception of how the business world operates working in the payments department you see where money is flowing to and where its coming back from.
I suppose my biggest passion outside of work would be photography. I spend a lot of time taking photographs. The thing I like most about it is being able to
capture a certain scene; I like seeing small details in life. You kinda go into a world of your own you can separate yourself from what's going on all around you.
It's quite pleasing when you see yourself getting nice photographs.
My name is David Prior, I'm 32 years old and I'm a Workflow Supervisor in Ulster Bank.
