I'm Rhiannon
and I'm in Year 11
at Bellingen High School.
I've just started...
..I started a school-based traineeship in Year 10.
I'm hoping to complete it at the end of next year.
It's in business, and I want to work in employment.
Yeah, I didn't really go to school when I was younger.
I didn't really like school, and I still find it hard to go sometimes.
I think it's good to experience doing the in-school traineeship
before you leave school
'cause then you have that and you know...
..like, you know you've tried it.
So, you know, if you go out of school, you're, like, scared
and you don't know what to do
and you just haven't worked before, so you're like, "What am I doing?"
But if you've already had that experience, it's good to... Yeah.
I just think it made me feel better about myself, doing all the...
..like, going to school and having the school-based traineeship.
You know, you just wouldn't want to stop it.
Like, it's something you just want to achieve
because you've already started something
and it feels really good to do it.
It's just important to have education, I suppose.
Like, if you want to have a family when you're older,
you want to support them.
And, I don't know,
just staying at school gets you better qualifications,
so when you're older, like, you might...
You think that you don't want to do it when you're younger
but when you're older, you'll go back
and you'll wonder why you didn't do it.
So, I think it's important to do it now, before it's too late, I suppose.
I've just got offered a job at TAFE, which is really good,
and that's just mentoring Aboriginal kids and doing reception.
Like, first I'll do reception and then I'll sort of get into
how to help kids and do things like that.
There is a lot of support networks out there for Aboriginal people
and there's a lot of people out there, willing to help you.
