Narrator: A friend of Steve's introduced him to Robbie. A kid suffering from cerebral palsy,
riding around in a beat up wheelchair. Steve hopes he can help him out.
Steve: Hows it going Robbie?
Robbie: Alright.
Steve: Good to see ya. Doing alright?
Robbie: Yeah.
Steve: Yeah? So tell me whats it your into?
Robbie: I dig movies.
Steve: What movie?
Robbie: The fast and the furious.
Steve: Oh yeah, fast and furious.
Robbie: Yea.
Steve: Really?
Robbie: Yup.
Steve: He loves the movie the fast and the furious. His eyes lit up as he described the
cars the paints. We're going to do something really special
for Robbie. We are going to do you a nice chair.
Robbie: This chair - this ones old.
Steve: Yeah, we're going to get rid of this one.
Robbie: Ya. Finally, thank you.
Steve: Ha ha ha, no problem. We'll get you a real good one. Brand new.
Robbie: OK.
Narrator: Steve wants to get Robbie a new chair - even if he has to buy it himself.
Steve: Kristen? Got something for you. Met a kid whose got cerebral palsy and he's in
a wheelchair. His chair looks horrible. What we're going to come up with is tricking out
his chair. Making it look all cool. And I need you to get online,
try to find a wheelchair manufacturer maybe that
wants to donate a chair for us to work on it.
Kristen: Ohhh. Thats really sweet. Its good to do charity – because I wouldn't ordinarily
do it on my own. So its nice when someone kind of puts
you in that position. When they're like, hey, lets
do something nice. And then you kind of realize how good it feels. A free, a free chair?
Steve: Well, you'll probably find a company willing to donate a chair when you tell them
we're gonna redo the whole thing, make it with all kind
of cool colors and present it to the kid. He's about to
graduate – so we're going to try to make it coincide.
Kristen: Okay. I can do that.
Steve: Perfect.
Kristen: Yeah! Yeah. Yeah...
Steve: Thanks. We know Robbie is graduating soon. I had Kristen get a hold and find out
the details. It'd be great to make this coincide with that. However, its another deadline....
Announcer: Robbie is graduating from high school soon and Steve really wants the chair
to be ready for him by then.
Sam: What about the disks?
Steve: Aluma-luster.
Sam: We're probably going to leave the front wheels alone since they get a lot of action.
Lets pull it out and get it powder coats black. It will be
able to take a beating and be with him for awhile. Lets get
it apart then. I'm sure we will think of some more stuff as soon as we dig into it.
Steve: Doing the chair pieces is gonna be interesting. We are gonna do Aluma-luster
on the clear plastic parts. They're gonna kind of make it look
like a racing hubcap. On the fenders themselves we are
going to use the Imperial Chrome which is a full on one on one 100% chrome finish. Its
done by using a series of chemicals in water and by
applying activator and a rinse and along with the
chrome itself we can get a 100% mirror finish in a matter of seconds.
Steve: What do you say Robbie? What do you think? Like it? Got a little of everything
on here. Check it out. I even put a cop light on the front, check it out! See that?
Robbie: Wow!
Steve: Just grab it right here in the middle.
Robbie: Thank you!
Stacey Mom: When I heard Steve was going to do this for him, it was such a blessing to
us. He really needed a new chair and it will be great for him to have this fancy new chair
for his graduation!
Steve: I love the fact that as soon as he was in the new chair, he looked over the old
one and said, “take that thing outta here! He was the center of attention. People were
taking pictures and everybody lining up and wanting to be around him and the chair. That
was great.
