Today we're going to demonstrate the Breathe Easy PAPR.
The PAPR sucks air into these three holes at the bottom
and then air will blow out of the top.
The three holes need filters on them to filter the air we're going to breathe.
So these are the filters, we need to remove the caps on either side.
Then go ahead and put them onto the unit.
There are two holes on the side
and then one hole on the bottom.
Now that all of our filters are in place
we need to look at where the power supply comes from.
On the unit you'll see that there's a cord here with a three pronged plug.
There's actually no power button on the unit itself.
We go to the battery to find that.
There are two different kinds of batteries
that you may find your emergency preparedness closet.
The yellow ones
are a nickel metal hydride battery which can be recharged.
The white batteries are the ones that we should really use when doing a real event.
You'll notice on the batteries, on the back,
there's a little clip to hook that battery onto your belt
so that it will be a part of your outfit when you're working.
Then once your plug is plugged in
you can go ahead and flip the switch
and that will make your device run.
We need to test that the the device is working properly and
that's what this red device with the little ball in it will do.
So we take that and stick it into the air outlet of our device.
Then go ahead and flip the battery on.
We're looking for the ball to float above the arrows that you see.
Those are our minimum flows,
obviously here is is way above.
If, for some reason, your ball does not float above those arrows
more than likely you've left on a cap
and you can certainly screw these on with a cap on a filter.
So make sure that you've checked all of your filters to make sure
all those caps are off.
If that is not the reason the ball isn't floating you probably have
a bad battery and you probably need to look at that also.
On the white batteries that you'd use in a real incident you'll notice there's
a little chart here with a number of hours used. These batteries have twelve hours
of life and you need to mark off each hour that you go ahead and use on that battery.
Now that we're all connected with power and we've got our filters we need to connect
the tubing and the hood to our device.
The hose has two different ends. It has a snap connect on one end
which will connect to the hood of the PAPR.
Then on the other end it has a pipe clamp. So the pipe clamp end
needs to be slid over the air outlet.
That can be a little tough so make sure that
you get it all the way down next to the PAPR unit.
Then we just take our pipe clamp and, righty-tighty, screw that on until
that hose is nice and tight on the device.
So now we're connected to the unit.
Then we need to take our PAPR hood
and remember there are two layers of the hood that we need to look at.
We actually separate the inner and outer layer.
Toward the back of the head is where you'll find the snap connect.
That's where our hose will go ahead and snap in there
Now your unit is ready to put on your user.
You just need to flip it on.
And then go ahead and put the belt on them
and put the hood on top.
