So we have ended up in Munduk.
It is sunset time, right now,
and we’ve decided to stay the night here.
Which is mostly caused by this incredible view.
Check out the golden light on those mountains!
Wow!
That is gorgeous, isn’t it?
So cool.
It’s going to be so fun staying the night, here.
I can’t wait to see what it looks like in the morning.
They said the sunrise would be around over there…
… in the mountain range area. There it is… yeah, behind me.
Looks like we have a little guest in the room.
So beautiful.
It’s early in the morning and the sun is just starting to rise above the hills.
The weather is so clear, right now.
So we can see everything. So beautiful.
There’s golden light on the hills
and all the trees are visible. Not a single sign of fog or clouds.
That is Mount Batukaru, which lays at the center of Bali.
At 2, 276 m
It is the second tallest mountain in Bali.
It is covered in a dense rain forest that is filled with life.
Trees hug the landscape.
This is Bali’s true rainforest.
It’s alive and thriving.
And how could it not be?
It has had the benefits of fertile volcanic soil coming from the mountain which is now extinct.
It has high levels of rain.
It’s hard not to fall in love with such an amazing place.
It’s got the view and the perfect weather.
This area also has several vast nature reserves.
These forest systems have a vital role to play on this island.
When it rains,
they act like a sponge.
Absorbing water and preventing landslides,
then they slowly release the water into a ground water system.
Some of this water eventually finds itself in one of the 3 nearby lakes.
Especially during rainy seasons, when it may cause the lake to rise.
This is an incredibly important role played by the forests,
because most of Bali’s water supplies come from this region.
These forests obviously need to be protected, not to be exploited.
Any serious environmental destruction,
will have a severe consequence to the livelihood of Bali’s residence.
