I chose to come to Ohio State because I wanted a school where I would never be bored a day
in my life. There's over a thousand student organizations with a brand new recreational
facility, a brand new Thompson Library and a really nice Ohio Union. Ohio State has the
resources and activities to keep me busy.
There are so many different things that you can do.
It's not just the university, but it's a huge urban city. There is so much to do.
When I first came to campus I knew how important it was to adjust myself and get involved on
campus. I right away delved into joining student government and Greek Life and went to the
involvement fair and just took advantage of every opportunity that came my way.
I became a part of the Society of Minority Scientists when I was a freshman and now I
am currently the president. My freshman year I joined the Ohio Union Activities Board,
or OUAB. Now I am in my fourth year and I am on the visual and fine arts committee and
so those were really great ways for me to get to know some of the other students here
on campus and to just to be involved.
I tried really hard to find groups and organizations on campus that really aligned with my interests,
such as Buckeyes for Public Health, the Pre-Dental Club; and with some friends we started our
own student organization called Promoting the Advancement of Childhood Education, or
PACE. It helped me really engage with OSU especially being a commuter student.
I am a first generation college student. My parents emigrated from India about 25 years
ago. Me, being at Ohio State, is a blessing for our family, and it's funny because I
have to explain things to them, but I think that has been an exciting part because they've
got the chance to experience college and they've got the chance to experience Ohio State.
There is a lot to like about Columbus. I've experienced quite a bit and I have a lot more
to experience before I graduate. It is the capital city, which is great for me because
I am public affairs major. I know a lot of my friends in the major are pages down there
and I've gotten to tour the capital building and I love that you are 10 minutes from downtown
if you hop on the COTA which is the bussing system in Columbus. Columbus Crew is the major
league soccer team and I love soccer. Every Saturday in the fall there's always Buckeye
football that's exciting. You have 100,000 people in Ohio stadium. There is always something
to do in Columbus.
There is never a dull moment or a dull weekend in Columbus. You can easily go and find something
to do, whether that be going out to a restaurant, maybe in Short North or going to the gallery
hop that they have every first Saturday of the month.
The Short North is one of my favorite places to go to. There are incredible shops and restaurants
and it is so fun to just get out of the University District.
There are great theatres downtown. The Ohio theatre, the Palace theatre, and they have
shows that are incredible. Ohio State has this really cool program called D-Tix and
as a student we can get discounted or even free tickets to concerts or to the museums
that are downtown; and all of this is within a 10-15 minute bus ride. There are so many
opportunities that Ohio State offers and that being in the Columbus community offers.
