once again its justin from guitarmadeez.com and today im going to teach you everything
you need to know about the c major chord. When you see the c major chord in tab books
sheet music, whatever basically its just an uppercase c theres nothing next to it. Theres
no 7 theres no 5, theres no lower case m, those are all different types of chords but
they're all derrived from the c major chord right here. Basicall how you play this chord
is you take your ring finger and put it on the 3rd fret a string take your middle finger
and put it on the second fret d string and you take your pointer finger and put it on
the 1st fret b string ok all the rest of these strings within, this g string is open, this
e string is open when i say open i mean that theres no fingers that are touching or muting
or pressing down on the frets along those strings, you play those open and thats what
it sounds like you're not actually playing your playing 5 strings, youre not actually
playing this top e, this is what it sounds like if you play the top e it doesnt really
go along with the rest of the strings so ive seen this alot in a lot of music, alot of
folk music and classic rock is what people will do is that they will take their pinky
and put it on this 3rd fret a string and theyll take their ring finger and put it on the 3rd
fret e string so it sounds like this and that has a more full sound but all i want you to
learn and all i want you to practice is these 5 strings right here once you have that down
you can do basically whatever you want with this chord this is the basis for all c chords
out there so practice this over and over and make sure you're only hitting these five strings
a couple quick variations of this c choird is um lets see here you can put your pinky
on your uh what is it your g string on the 3rd fret and thats the c7 right there its
kind of a bluesy note um you can take off different fingers within this chord and it
will change up the chord a little bit but it still has the basis for the c chord so
it still has that feeling and that sounds but thats for if your improvising and having
fun you can take of this finger right here it has a different sound put it back on right
there put your pinky on the 4rd fret b string its kinda like a dust in the wind thing um
but yeah so this is all that you need to know and this is all that i want you to know right
now and once you have this and a couple of the other chords down, you can play pretty
much any song out there if youve payed attention to two of my other lessons the d chord and
the g chord if you have this c down you can play american pie you can play brown eyed
girl um theres a ton of songs greenday time of your life theres hundreds of songs you
can play just by knowing those three chords so keep at it and practice these chords practice
change between c g d e all your chords and go through your transitions once you get that
down the whole world of music opens up to you so keep practicing and keep tuning in
