Hey guys, so I want to talk about one of my favorite book series
of all time. I've just sort of picked it up, but
I can guarantee that majority of the people who read em
probably will like it and it's the Divergent
series. The first book is called "Divergent"
kind of a self-titled. The second book
is called "Insurgent" and what this book series is basically
about is sort of a futuristic society
if you will. It's sort of, uh... distopian kind of like The Giver
It kind of takes place
in..I think Chicago, where people are kind of
separated into five different factions. I'll just go in
alphabetical order and I'll list the factions
and I will tell you a little bit about the attributes.
The first faction, in alphabetical order, is Abnegation.
much like I'm wearing right now, they wear practically all grey.
They value selflessness
in order to help other people.
So they put other people in front of themselves. So basically
other first, self last. Very, very selfless,
kind, giving people.
They do a lot of community service. If you, um..
turn 16 and you choose Abnegation as your..
home, I guess, like your home faction
you just do community service and they'll accept you and you just
basically, you just do volunteer work your entire life. The second faction would be
called Amity, and they like to wear bright colors
like yellows and reds. They value
um... peace and happiness.
They're really good environmentalists. They
love to work with nature
they are- they love technology and how technology
helps them to achieve their goals of sustaining
the environment and
recycling, giving back to nature, sometimes they can be
very spiritual as well. The third faction is Candor
and Candor- they wear black and white, which is kind of symbolic
of how they see situations.
They either see something as truth or
not the truth; truth or dishonesty.
They value honesty.
They don't believe in keeping secrets. They're very...basically...candid,
they'll tell you something right up to your face if they don't like you they'll just come up to you
or if it pops up in a conversation they'll just say it right
out: "I don't like you."
Which is kinda scary, if you ask me.
The fourth in alphabetical order would be Dauntless.
Now, the Dauntless wear all black
they're basically like the city protectors. They're the soldiers,
muscles. Their initiation process is
probably the scariest, I would say. They value
courage and bravery. That faction is
the most interesting faction.
I'm not gonna give any spoilers away but read the books. And, last but certainly not least,
is Erudite.
Now, a rule of being Erudite is you have to wear at least one article of
blue clothing at all times and they think- and I think this is a scientific-
it's been proven scientifically that
wearing blue can
release sort of like...calming emotions
so blue is basically a calming color.
They value knowledge, they value ... technology;
they're really good with technology
most of the Erudite go into
research, they teach, they are scientists
doctors, surgeons...
whatever all the big smart things are.
Basically, that's Erudite. And the reasons for these factions
is because the city leaders believe
that in order for everybody to kind of coexist
and to live harmoniously is to divide people into their strengths
so that they can bond together and work
kind of in their own group, yet be a part of a bigger
... like a bigger purpose, a bigger whole, if you will.
Now, the reason I'm making this video is because the
third book in the Divergent trilogy is gonna be released on October 22.
I so can't wait; I've been tweeting practically
religiously every single day about
the contest that I'm kind of entered in.
It's from Divergent Fans. I went to their website and I entered in all
the information in order to kind of sign up for the contest.
I tweet something and I submit that to give me more
entries so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I win
the book because I've never won anything in my entire life.
But yeah, if you're looking for a good book to read
or if you have a couple hours basically to spare,
definitely pick up Divergent and if you
fall in love with it like I diid you will definitely want to go out and buy
Insurgent the very next day. It's a super easy read
but that doesn't mean that on an intellectual level
it isn't ... just brilliant.
I adore Veronica Roth as a writer.
She's amazing. I love the fact that
her books have picked up popularity and the movie
will be released next year ... really excited for it I totally ship FourTris,
not gonna lie. Thank you guys for watching.
Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for a special little video
that will be uploaded soon, I hope. I'm
gonna finish filming all the stuff, edit it, and I hope
you guys will enjoy it if you're a Divergent fan
this is all I'm gonna say is you might wanna keep your eyes open
for it [laughs]. I will see you next time
umm...buh-bye!
