Hey, guys, Dr. Axe here, Doctor of Natural Medicine and Founder of DrAxe.com. In this
video, I'm going to teach you how to stop snoring fast. For many people, snoring is
an issue that can also cause insomnia for yourself and insomnia for a loved one. I know
my grandfather growing up really, really struggled with this and other family members that I've
had. Again, these things are all-natural ways and all-natural remedies to help you stop
snoring fast and in a natural manner.
The number one thing you can do to stop snoring fast is to start sleeping on your side. Become
a side sleeper. For a lot of people, they may say, "I've tried it before and I just
can't seem to sleep on my side. I like sleeping on my back, or I end up there at night." Here's
what you need to do to sleep on your side. Number one, realize it's going to take a little
bit of time.
I know that I slept on my stomach for years until I started having neck and back pain
from it. Then, I started sleeping on my side. The first two weeks, I had a really hard time
sleeping. I stuck with it and eventually it became easy. The other thing I did is I got
a body pillow. I got a body pillow that I would hug between my knees and my arms. That
really kept me from moving and rolling. Again, start sleeping on your side and get a body
pillow in order to do that. Give your body time. Again, side sleeping is probably the
fastest way to help you stop snoring.
Number two, use essential oils. Before bed, start diffusing some peppermint oil, lavender
oil, chamomile oil, and eucalyptus oil. Those are the most effective oils. Peppermint and
eucalyptus essential oil work because they open the airways, making breathing easier.
Chamomile and lavender oil work because they help your body relax. They help your tissues
relax and reduce inflammation naturally, which helps you sleep better, which can prevent
snoring as well.
Again, eucalyptus and peppermint essential oil as well as lavender and Roman chamomile
essential oil are the best essential oils to help you stop snoring fast. Again, you
can just rub a little bit on your temples, on your neck area and upper chest. You can
mix them with a little coconut oil and do that. Or, you can just have a diffuser going
by your bed the beginning of the night is a great way to do it as well. Those will help
you stop snoring.
Also, certain supplements can help with snoring such as fenugreek, goldenseal and vitamin
C. You can do fenugreek tea throughout the day, which is also really good for hormones.
It's good for women for estrogen-progesterone balance. It's good for men and testosterone
and libido. Again, fenugreek is great for that reason. It also helps breathing. Goldenseal
helps support healthy red blood cell production, increasing your cardiovascular fitness. For
that reason, it actually helps increase your ability to breathe. Vitamin C works in a very
similar way, especially that combo of goldenseal and vitamin C together. Those are very effective
supplements to take. A few other supplements that can sometimes be effective include magnesium
and acetylcysteine can also be beneficial in many cases as well.
In terms of another thing you can do, many people that struggle with snoring, is if you're
snoring all the time, it can be caused by being overweight. Losing weight is an effective
way to do this. Listen, you can lose weight really, really fast following a healthy diet.
Really, you don't need to count calories. What I'd recommend is get one of my books.
Get my book, "Repair Your Digestive Health" or my book, "Eat Dirt" or my "Bone Broth Breakthrough"
book. Any of those books have diet plans that are going to really help support weight loss
in a healthy and natural manner.
Again, losing weight and exercising 20 minutes, three days a week, that's it. Just getting
out there and moving a little bit and changing your diet to a healthy diet. Heck, even if
you just changed breakfast, that's going to help you get to your ideal weight. By the
way, obviously, there are people that are thin who struggle with snoring. You may be
a person that isn't overweight at all. Sometimes, just losing that last 5, 10 or 20 pounds can
make all the difference in helping you to stop snoring.
The next thing you want to do, and this is a big one, is you need to get rid of dampening
foods. There are foods within Chinese medicine that are known to cause mucous production
and cause dampness within the body. Those foods you want to get rid of. Here are those
foods. Number one is dairy products. If you're consuming dairy, that dampens your body. Wheat
products, wheat and white bread, whether that's pasta or bagels or cereal or white or wheat
flour products, wheat products are very dampening to the body and cause mucous production. Eggs,
avocados. A lot of times, tropical fruits. Sugar, in general, is very dampening to the
body. Doing a lot of oily foods or a lot of oils can do that as well. You want to get
rid of those things.
You want to start following a diet that's rich in warming foods and drying foods. Warming
and drying foods would be to imagine a bone broth soup. That's very warming to the body.
Certain vegetables. Most of those are more neutral to the body. Actually, collard greens
and kale are very drying to the body. Certain what are known as bitter herbs. Romaine lettuce
actually would fall in that category of a bitter herb that helps. Horseradish, cayenne
pepper, things that are, again, heating and drying, that's going to eat up that mucous
production, versus cold and damp, such as ice cream. Stay way from those. Those are
all going to help snoring.
