Five things you need to know about the state of Missouri, why security is getting even
tighter at Busch Stadium and what not to do if you and your buddy are “hanging out”
and he steals your pot. That and more today in The Sift.
Welcome to The Sift. I'm Gabrielle Biondo, filtering through some
of the most talked-about stories in St. Louis. Did you sit through Missouri governor Jay
Nixon’s State of the State address Tuesday night?
If not.. no worries.. there are lots of articles summarizing the speech and you can find social
media reaction on Politicmo.com. But the Business Journal offers a clever breakdown
of the 5 biggest takeaways. The article explains: 2014 will be the year
of education, Nixon is still calling for medicaid expansion, state workers may see a salary
increase, Nixon remains optimistic about Missouri’s economy and the gov wants to reign in tax
credits and reinstate strict campaign contribution limits.
You can find all the details in the Business Journal article below.
Meanwhile, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the Kirkwood School District accepts KSDK's
apology for sparking that school lockdown last week during an investigative news story.
The district superintendent says.. KSDK's actions were inappropriate and unacceptable
but they accept the apology and the situation prompted the district to reevaluate its security.
Speaking of security, Cardinals fans don’t plan on packing metal to next year’s games.
Fox 2 reports major league baseball has a league-wide security plan 2015, including
metal detectors at Busch Stadium. The move is the result of MLB's collaboration
with the Department of Homeland Security. So.. Illinois is devising a plan for its new
medical marijuana pilot program. Well, while that is in the works possessing
pot is still illegal So.. if someone steals your pot...maybe pulling
a gun, engaging in a car chase and calling the police to report the theft isn’t your
best option. However, KSDK reports that’s just what one guy did in East St. Louis and
now he and two others are in jail. Want more on these stories? Get links to all
