This is Designing Spaces: Think Green, the show that's all about
you, your living space, and living a more eco-freidnly
lifestyle. Today, we look at how our homes,
surroundings, even our transportation are all parts of
one big picture that's moving us towards a better world.
A healthier environment means healthier lives for all of us.
So, let's get started, and Think Green.
A big part of an efficiently operating house is the built in
barrier that protects your home from the elements.
Eco-friendly building products are contributing to a better
barrier between the occupants of a home, and intrusions from
outside. Think Green visits one home,
under construction, to take a look.
(MUSIC). When looking to get into a new
home, most perspective buyers are considering the layout,
amenities, and details. (MUSIC).
But, unlike the past, more potential homeowners are looking
at how their homes are being built.
People are embracing the desire to know how, and understand the
materials that are going into their homes.
Think Green looks at the home envelope, the built in barrier
that protects your home from the elements, including the damaging
impact of moisture penetration. People should worry about
moisture intrusion, because moisture and water is a number
one, common reason for having structural decay, high humidity
inside the home, metal corrosion, and most importantly,
the mold growth. (MUSIC).
A typical family of four can emit up to three or four gallons
of water a day. This protective house wrap that
keeps air out of the home has also been engineered to allow
moisture vapor to escape from the wall cavity to the outside,
facilitating moisture control. It's like a high tech raincoat
that repels water, yet breathes. A proper air barrier, such as
Typar Weather Protection Systems, it would allow your
inside condition temperature to stay the way you set it up, and
keep those environmental pollution outside.
(MUSIC). Installed before the exterior
siding, the wrap covers and seals vulnerable areas.
With its exceptional tear strength, and ultraviolet
stability, Typar stands tough on the job site.
Better yet, it helps defend against the damaging effects of
nature, improves overall energy efficiency, and contributes to
indoor air quality, and overall comfort, for the long haul.
Typar Construction Group is committed to building a system
of products that contributes to the better living, and better
efficiency of the homes. The Typar weather resistant
barriers emit minimal V-O-Cs, and reduce waste by using more
than 23% reground content. From initial manufacture, to
installation, and performance as a weather barrier, Typar can
actually help reduce your carbon footprint.
Water and moisture intrusion through window is one of the key
concern of any builder and any installer.
It's very important to properly flash the windows, properly seal
the windows, to make sure there is no water getting into them.
(MUSIC). So, the key factors are these---
install it on a dry condition, if you can, install the
house wrap with the overlap, as is recommended, use the Typar
tape, construction tape on an area that there is a
penetration, and there is an area that there is overlap, and
lastly, but not least, make sure you use a proper fastener, and
proper fastening system. With a selection of Typar
materials available, designed to meet the highest standards of
construction, builders around the country are turning to best
practices, versus simply meeting code for home construction, and
building more efficient, sustainable structures.
(MUSIC). This home is going to be
offering the homeowner a maximum efficiency for their home to
make sure that their home is eco-friendly, environmentally
friendly, and uses minimal amount of the energy to heat and
cool the house, and most importantly is it makes to make
sure that there is a minimal chance of moisture intrusion in
that home. To learn more about Typar
