Well I just spent five minutes of my time
reviewing a game I just completely lost in the computer because I think it froze
But at least now you don’t have to listen to my washing machine, sounds like it’s Calming down a little bit now 0:00:14.079,0:00:16.349 So I'm going to start again.
And I'm going to do a review
of, God, Heavy Rain
I also want to clarify 0:00:24.390,0:00:26.889 a little conversation with a guy in my course
and he was trying to tell me
that you got an oragami
figure in each case.
And I wasn't having any of it, and I was like I didn't read that anywhere. You're talking out of your
bum.
and [pause] well you do.
So, you were right. Unfortunately, though, you have to fold it yourself. Which as you can see, resulted in something very
interesting.
And I did it the wrong way around I think.
Because if you look,
all the type is on the inside
and i think it was supposed to be on the outside 0:59.900,0:01:04.379 looking at the diagram. So I don't know. And I would attempt to fold it
the other way, but I can't even make a paper aero-plane privileged so I don't think that's a good
idea.
So Im just going to 0:01:13.110,0:01:18.970 leave it the way it is. So I want to review it,
because, mainly, uhm, I do a Computer games art and design course. And a lot of the guys on the course don't have a Playstation
and from a lot of people I've spoken to they don't have Playstations
it's all about the XBOX, which I have
to clarify this now, [pause]
I'm not a fan-girl of any
size, shape or
form, I don't pledge alliegance, you know, to
any console. Uh, I own an XBOX and a Playstation
So I'm just going to talk generally about the things I like about the game. I'm going to talk about 0:01:48.630,0:01:55.060 gameplay first, because it seems everyone I'm speaking to, uh, is all, you
know, freaking out about the fact it's just quick-time. They think it's just quick time events, and automatically take it
as a bad thing. [pause]
even if it's not, but if it was
I don't think it would take away from the game,
any, that's just my my opinion, uh...
So..
I mean you have chances where you actually can control the character...
uh, you know, just walk then around the environments
and that
took me a long time to get used to. because it's one of those things that if you
want to try and turn left,
sometimes the camera angle will change and you'll find you're walking
in the opposite direction or
irritating things like that
and also, to get used to the fact that you have
four different characters that are totally different in the
build and weight and things like that.
That they walk completely completely different from each other
which could be considered, uh, a
great design
aspect, becaouse of actually looked, or taken the time to look into how they all move...
Yeah, but the actual
gameplay itself evolves around
different kinds of movements,
via the six-axis
control, mushroom pad,
whatever...Quick-time events, you know press X repeadtedly or press and hold certain sequence of buttons...
sometimes you have to action
really slow
otherwise you copletely *** up everything,
or just the action in genral
it, it, there's so much and
personally I think that benefits the story
because this way
you're not limited to a set amount of
action, it's
not just punch, kick
walk; it's your character is able to do anything, you
can completely inter-act with
the 'verse' and everything that's going on around you. You can pick up a glass. You can lean against the wall
sit on the bed
do what ever you want
so on to story
very quickly,
it's really brilliant
I think, it's the best story I've
ever...I mean
it's so...the depth of it.
Uh,it's great,it's a detective,
thriller, whatever you want to call it,
but, I was guessing throughout the entire game. I was like, "Who the hell is the oragami killer?"
I really need to know,
and there was even these little teasing clues
and stuff. It was, it was brilliant, it was brilliantly executed.
Uh, the characters themselves are
incredibly deeo. They all have flaws, which is great because, flaws make us human.
We're not perfect. It just
created
more of a believability...because of it.
so that was I found myself getting into the story so much, when I got the ending...to
anyone who's played the game,
I got the so-close ending? I was in tears, I actually...bawled...
and I think what really added to
the suspension of disbelief was the fact that your characters
have mortality, they could
die. There was no game over screen, you don't
re-spawn in ten minutes... Ten minutes??
Ten seconds! Uhm, after you die,
that's it...story continues. Everyones heard it, We've all read it in magazines.
You don't realise though when you're playing it. When you find yourself in a life or death situation
with that knowledge in the back of your mind line it suddenly makes the situations so much more
pressured. It's all about fully emmersing yourself in a game and I don't think any games quite done
that, like this. Now I'm a fan of Uncharted, because of the chemistry between the actors and the brilliant writing but
this
is totally different, it's totally different, because you don't feek like you're watching...the characters...
you don't feel like there's a screen separating you. You feel like you are the character. You're
not just walking in their shoes. You are...well, them. So
story, I'd say if you like
games or you play games for the story, then Heavy Rain is for you.
And you can't beat it in that aspect.
Visuals are great, I mean they just look fantastic. The Character models themselves
you can see the pores, uh, blotchy skin, stubble, all of it. You can see it and it looks great.
And the environments are great...not as good as the character modesl
but not crap.
Some of the objects they come in contact with uh...
remotes, t_v_'s, whatever, they look kind of two dimensional
which in comparison to the character models can seem very obvious
and lastly on to the score. The score I thought was spectacular.
Very 'Film Noire.' It was just, it
set the mood and atmospere
perfectly.
And it took an already stressful storyline or nerver-shredding moment and amped it up.
So, yeah, the score is great and it lends itself perfectly to...to...
the game.
Overall
this to me is best game I've played...bar nonee.
I've played it another four times since I've
finished it. Just to get
just to get all the trophies and
see the different endings and all that. So anyone that says it has no replay value is...lying. And
just try it out! Just...just
be part of the gaming revolution, you know, if you don't have a Playstation 3,
no big. Just go around to someone that has one.
Or, you know, invite
yourself over to some...hell, I having a game night around here around here
for some people who don't have, you know, the means to
play it or buy it.
Do it. It's great. A...a great idea that I actually read on a forum somewhere
is they had a big group who
played the game
and each person played different character. They had a set character and every time their
chapter came up, they'd play it,
which resulted in a completely different story because everyone had
methods of playing. Overall
I'd give it roughly a 9.5 out of 10.
Walking...
the objects you interact aren't that great, the environments
could have been a little bit better or could have been as good as the character models. But
it's damn near perfect, the rest of it, the story...uh...
the suspension of disbelief, all of that. You can't get any better. So to
Quantic Dream and David Cage, thank you for
creating such a beautiful game,
and I hope you guys, you know, 0:08:15.929,0:08:21.219 like the review...uh, I don't know, I tried to do St Tropaz,
or no, I'm sorry, the cheaper version which I can never pronounce and that turned out terribly.
So if you all thought it was crap, I'm sorry for wasting, oh, about fifteen
minutes of your time
uh...
thank you for listening, is all I and I hope you guys have a great
day.
To people who already have the game...
Happy Heavy Rain-age.
