My name is Glen Bray.
I'll be 67 years old next week.
I've got athetoid.
I live in my own place at Mona Vale.
I've been back at the gym now for,
For about four and a half years.
Previously, I noticed I was getting weaker.
I couldn't walk along the beach,
On the weekend.
Because, if I sat down
It was too hard to get up.
So, while I got my exercise in general life,
I needed, I reached a point where I needed
To come back to the gym,
And get better exercises.
Prolonged mobility.
I still need to be able to stand up and walk
To do my shopping.
It's very important that I'm mobile
Enough to do the shopping.
The best thing about coming here is
I get advice on what to do
To keep up my fitness,
And to keep up my mobility.
I come here, I get advice on what I should be doing.
I can do that here,
I can carry on at my local gym, or at home.
The idea is to prolong the ability
To do the tasks.
So, in that way,
We're working well.
I think
We've slowed down the deterioration.
If I hadn't been coming to the gym this
Last four and a half years,
I wouldn't be able to do the things I'm doing,
Because,
I was degenerating,
I was getting weak.
When I think back to four years ago,
Prior to the spinal cord surgery,
I couldn't even stand at my breakfast table.
I was even falling off my crutches.
Now, while in the past,
I may have fallen off my crutches by tripping,
Or putting them down a hole,
Just walking along, I never fall over.
But, I was doing that,
Or close to doing that on a regular basis,
Before I started back at the gym.
