Hello to everybody, I'm Michele
I'm here to explain the Gladiatori game
Gladiatori is a game about Arena fights
Each player moves an own miniature on the board
This one
Does all using game cards
using an own game card deck
This is a prototype
The final version will be different and better made
Let's see how the cards work
Here we have different kind of cards
They are different on the back
In this case it's black
On final game the back will be red
These are the blue and this the green cards
On front they have a line on top part
which show the card type (green on green cards ...)
and, inside the same group, different of cards.
The principal cards are the green ones
because define the kind of action the player is able to do
there are 6 green cards
every player has the same green card set
two cards show the player's character
the b&w card covers the player discarded cards
the color card covers the player hit point cards
the action card are 4, these 4 cards
we have 3 types of attack
and 1 type of movement
let's understand how the movement card works
all action cards show on bottom part what the card can do
for example the Movement card, this one
shows a graphic scheme, as all other cards
which shows where the miniature can move
The 6 green hexes mean you can go in all diretions
With this card the player can move his miniature up to 3 hexes
in all directions
the II symbol shows that the card needs to be rotated when used
to show to all that this card has been already used in an Action
because a card cannot be used 2 times in the same turn
the last symbol is all cards and show the hit point value
this concept will be more clear when I will explain how HP work
Let's see the other 3 attack cards
all show the same scheme
this means the attack can be made only in the front hex
and an icon which shows the attack type
The elmet icon means the Strength attack
The Coliseum the Berserk attack
and the Pegasus the Dexterity attack
also here is the symbol that remind to the player to rotate the card
and the hit point value of the card
let's see what the different attack can do
the Strength works with played cards
on his turn, the player plays a green card
face-down
and plays over some cards
always face-down
the defender does the same
then all cards are shown
all results are calculated: first the attacker then the defender
the Strength works with played cards
the cards show a value near a lightning icon
this value is the energy available in this kind of attack
In this case we have 1 + 1 energy
so this Strength attack has +2 to hit
very simple
I will better explain these cards later
the Dexterity attack, shown by the Pegasus
works with the cards the player has in his hand
every 2 cards in hand, the player gains +1 to hit
so you have a contrast between Strength and Dexterity
when you conserve the cards you are fast
when you play them you become slower
it simulates the reality
Berserk attack is based on Blood points
which represent the tenacity of the character
the attack uses this kind of points
we will examine this aspect with the character sheet
let's introduce a key concept of the game
the card actions have also a little scheme on the top-right part
this shows the Reaction type of the card
in your round you can make 1 action
but you can do unlimited reactions
the reactions are made when others attack you
so you can make 1 attack, but many reactions
each card has his reaction type
the dexterity card has a dexterity reaction (parry)
there is a scheme which shows from where the attack can come
so the attack needs to come from one of 3 hexes of front
same thing for Berserk card, which give a +5 to defense
and same thing also for Strength card
meanwhile the defense of Movement card (Dodge)
works also for attacks coming from the 2 lateral back hexes
and reduces the attack value to the half
The interesting thing is we have to play 2 game rounds
in which I play the first Action rotating the card
after that I suffer an attack
at this point I can or re-use this card as Reaction
because in reaction I can re-use any card
or play another card and use this one in Reaction
so if I suffer another attack
I can use this card, or this one, or play another card in Reaction
second round, same turn
I can play another card and use it as Action
or reuse one card of the two available card (straight)
the re-use card already on the table has a cost
and here is the core of the system
because I can react to many attacks
but any time I re-use a card I have to pay
in Blood points
The cost grows from the right to the left.
As the cards are played from the left to the right
the older cards cost more
so play this card costs 1 Blood, this 2 Blood, this 3 Blood points.
So the player will have to manage them
The cards with the purple line
have these symbols, the same symbols are in all cards
the 2 coins symbol
shows that the card costs 2 coins
because when you play Gladiatori game
you can use or the pre-generate characters
or the characters made by the players
and create characters is the more interesting part of the game
each player starts with some coins
and spent them to purchase all game components:
cards, skills, etc
so take this card costs 2 coins
consider that the starting amount for each player is 55 coins
also pre-generated characters has been made by this way
and balanced by money limitation
so this card costs 2 coins
let's put it here
gives 1 energy point
when is played on the board
on a Strength attack
and gives 2 hit points
so for example I play this card combination
the defender makes the same
then the attacker shows the cards
I made a Strength attack
and I can add a +1
so my attack has +1 to hit
let's see the second card
this card is less expensive
it costs the half
it costs only 1 coin
but gives 0 energy point and only 1 hit point
also this card can be useful
because it can be hold in the hand to work as Dexterity
and to give a bonus to hit by this way
and because it can be played
and when a player hit another player
the number of damage points depends by the number of card played
they are 1, which is the minimal
plus 1 every two card played.
so in this case
approximating per eccess
I can make 1 damage point + 1
so also the 0 energy cards are important
for the dexterity, for the hit points
and to make damage points
obviously they cost the half
beacuse they don't give energy
when you attack with the Strength
the other card type is yellow
there are 8 different types
which represent the Special moves
these cards provide bonus and characteristics
each player has to buy them and each card has a cost
so players will not have all special moves
but only few, because they cost
for example, let's see this special move
this is the Sweep
on the left the cost, it costs 2 coins
provide 3 hit points
the number 1 means it's the special move number 1
so it's more easy to identify it
this icon represents the symbol of the Sweep
then we have other 2 icons: this one shows what the card does
in this case this card allows the player to hit up to 3 targets
these little icons represent the card requirements
in this case: free movement
usable only with an attack
and without throwing weapons
are restrictions easy to guess
but they are reminded by these icons
then this symbol that can appear in some cards
shows that the character takes 1 white cube
the white cube represents an unbalanced status
when the character takes 2 cubes, he falls down
then we explained the special cards
and we have this last card to see
the card with black line, the feint
it costs 4 coins, very expensive
gives 3 hit points
this card can be played after the fight resolution
to show that the character made a feint
to cheat the opponent
and push him to consume energy, skills, and cards
meanwhile I will take back my card played
so it's a very useful card, but very expensive
Finally there are the blue cards
they are item cards
and each player takes 2 blue cards at the beginning
these cards can be allocate in different manners
the players can choose them or there is an auction
or the players can use a draft system
so each player starts with 2 item cards
these cards provide hit points
and a bonus to hit and to the defense
Let's say something about hit points
these work so:
each player starts with these 2 cards
this one (B&W) is for the discarded cards
as all cards played go in the discard deck
and this one (in color) is for the hit points
each player at the beginning of every game turn
(so he can change it during the game)
can choose if put some card on the hit point deck
of any kind
for example, if these are my cards
I can choose
to put 2 cards on the HP deck
and hold the others in my hand to use them during the play
these 2 cards mean I have
1 hit point because the base score is 1 hit point
plus 4 hit points
so my character in this turn has 5 hit points
so every player has to choose on every turn
if have more power, energy, more moves
or more hit points
or something average between the two
this is a big decision to take during the game
to end this short overview over the game
I introduce the character sheet
they are of 4 types, identical on grids and icons
meanwhile change the character image
and they show the character skills
a character is defined by the cards
and by the values on the character sheet
we have 5 values
which are the Resistance
the Offence, the Guard
and after the Blood and Speed
called in game slang "foot"
the first three represent the skills
and the second two the capacities of the character
then here we have the powers, represented by some icons
these special powers which can be used only 1 time per game
and give something special
all these things need to be purchased
a high value will cost more, a more power will cost more
an higher Blood score will cost more
and so on
the balancing of the game is made by this way
and also the pre-generated characters has been made by this way
the resistance allows you to recover discarded cards
and the Guard and Offese skill consumed
we already see that all cards used go in the discard pile
and need to be recovered or the character fatigues
avoid to fatigue is the more important thing of the game
and the player has to manage also this aspect
if I have 5 in Endurance, means I can recover 5 things
5 things mean: or the Skills,
excluding the Endurance itself
(so or the Offense or the Guard skill)
or the discarded cards
the Offense and the Guard gives a bonus
respectively to the attack and to the defense
so if I have Offense 5, I have +5 to hit
if Ihave Guard 3, I have +3 to defend
so these are the skills
the capacities, blood and speed
work in different manner
because they cannot be recovered
by the endurance
so your score is consumed during the play
the only way to recover these values
is do not perform any action during the round
losting the round
the blood is used to repeat the actions done
and to do a bonus to the berserk attack
the speed is also tactically very important
because allows the player to move and attack
we know there are the Movement card
but if you want to move and attack
you have to comsume some speed points
it is also important to change front
finally some words on these icons: the powers
these powers are available only 1 time
each power only 1 time per game
and give different abilities to the character
also the powers need to be purchased
when the character is created
to make an example the power 5, Deep Wounds
allows to take a penalty to the "to hit" score
and to obtain a bonus to the damage points made
the power 8, Delay
allows to change the turn order
