>> We are so excited to be back sharing our fun craft ideas with
you. All of those out there in cyberspace, we hope that you
call your friends. I have Jo and Sara with us today. We are
excited. We are having some fun today.
>> A little bit too much fun. >> When you go into the Michaels
store and you see all of the beautiful bows and arrangements,
do you feel a little bit intimidated? Do you know how to
make a bow? >> I'm here to learn.
>> We've got a couple gadgets. We have a couple different bow
makers. If you are intimidated on how to make a bow, I'm going
to show you a couple of the bow makers. When all is said and
done and I've taught you everything I know, and you still
can't make it to what you think is going to be outstanding, you
can go into your local Michaels store and talk to the floral
designer, pick out your written and she will make a bow for you
for a nominal fee. There you go. Some of the bows, I'm going to
say that when I make a bow, the average length is about 3 yards.
Ribbon comes in
all different widths. One-sided like this. This is one
cited ribbon. We have our design on
the right side. But it doesn't have the design
on the back. And when we make a bow out of this, we are going to
use the special little something with a twist to show
you how that you have the beautiful side of your written
up. Let's look at a couple of the ribbons. This is
the one-sided. We have some beautiful glitter. Most of the
ribbons that I use is why are driven. I love it because it's
really is easier to make a bow. The bow will hold its shape so
much nicer. If you are doing something like a girl Herve --
hair bow, you will use a satin ribbon that looks pretty and is
kind of nice and soft. But most of the things we are using has a
wire edge. Now, you can take the wire out
of that ribbon if you so desire. You can pull the ribbon out.
Sometimes if you want to gather ribbon, you can actually gather
the other side. Let's take a look at a couple bow makers to
start with. This one is called the easy bow maker. It actually
comes flat in the package. It has these two pegs in it. You
are going to need
a hammer. What I'm going to due to start with is I'm going to
cutoff a length of ribbon that is going to be part of my tail.
It is also going to be what I'm going to pull up and tie the bow
with. I'm going to put that right down there in my bow maker
like so. So I put it in between the
two pegs there. It can only be 3 yards, I can measure it off.
I'd like to keep it on the role and use it from there. I have a
real pet peeve about making bows, Ms. Sara. I think you've
heard this in our studio before. You have to finish the ends.
You cannot look like they've been chewed off. So there's a
couple different ways to finish the ends. You can fold it in
half like this. Then I'm -- this is called f ishtail. And I have
just cut the end of my ribbon. Look, I have a nice finished
edge. If I don't like the fishtail, I can certainly --
don't cut it straight. Cut it at an angle. Don't just like you
have top -- chopped it off the bolt. Looks awful.
>> Don't use your sewing scissors in it.
>> I'm so proud of you. >> I learned that the hard way.
>> Don't use your sewing scissors for anything other than
cutting fabric. You might want to designate a pair of scissors
for cutting the ribbon with the wire in it. Here's how we're
going to start. Because my ribbon is double-sided, I'm
going to put the
right side down. I'm going to put it in between the two pegs.
This is
my tail. Probably about 6 inches left on the tail. So I twist
it, it kind of twists when it goes down in between the pegs.
Now when I want to make sure -- my bow is going to go bigger to
smaller. So my first loop, I'm going to make -- again, I need
my ribbon right side up, so I'm going to put it in between the
two pegs that way. But now, I've got the ribbon on the right
side here. But if I don't turn this over,
I'm not going to have the right thing. I'm going to take and
give it
a half twist. Then I'm going to look and see in my next loop --
it's going to be the same length as this one is. I'm going to
insert it in between the pegs. All I'm going to do is keep
going. I've got a mirror on each side. What you've got to do is
go in about an inch or so to make them smaller.
>> How many loops are you going to do to make a relatively full
-- >> Probably about four loops on
either side. I had to turn my ribbon. I have to twist it in
the middle of the rods and turn it because I've got to have my
next loop down in here. And I'm going to make it about
an inch or so shorter and push it down in there. So you can see
that. Then I have to turn it again. So I'm just going to
finish this one so that we get to the end and show you how
we're going to get. >> While Jo is finishing up the
b ow, we have awesome news. There's so many different
holiday ribbons in the store. Sparkle, we have some fabulous
burlap printed ribbons in the s tore, and actually 60% off
today. So some fabulous holiday ribbons. You can't miss it. Walk
in the store. It's everywhere. >> We have good to ribbon. As
you know. I have some on my hands.
>> I'm going to put one more loop on here and show you -- I
have to keep turning my ribbon and knowing that my last loop --
I've got to go down and turn it again -- so I twist a half
twist to give me back to the wrong side -- to bring it back
up through here. >> You are leaving it attached?
>> I did. I left it attached. I'm going to make one more loop
and we will be finished with this and we can take it off and
show you our progress. So I'm going to take -- I'll cut off my
edge. So now I have my bow in there. I'm going to take a
piece. I cut a little piece there. This is what I'm actually
going to use to go around the ball. You can either use the
piece of ribbon that matches it or use the chenille stem. So I'm
going to lift
the bow up off the bow maker. You can see all of the twists in
the back of it. Okay? I'm going to take my piece of ribbon. And
I'm going to let you tie
that around there. It's so much more fun to craft.
If I don't like what you're doing, I can tell you.
>> Everyone has an opinion. >> Now what we're going to do is
this is where we are going to
flood our
bows. -- fluff our bows. All of the
ribbons are the right side up. So you go back and fluff our
bows. Use night, -- nice, sharp
scissors. I'm going to show you the
other bow maker. >> We have a question from one
of our viewers. About how many yards of ribbon do you need per
bow on average? >> Michelle, an average bow is
about 3 yards. Now, there's a big difference
when you go see those John Norma's bows that they put on
top of Christmas trees. -- when you see
those ginormous bows. When I get to showing you how we are going
to make it by hand, I'm going to show you the other one we
have quickly here. This is kind of basically the same premise.
This has a fancy steak. It's actually going to help us push
the ribbon -- this has a fancy stick. What's cool about them,
this comes with the DVD. So -- it is visual. Sometimes I
cannot -- I need to see somebody rather than reading the
instructions. >> You can do it as you watch
it. >> Absolutely. I learned this
just from practice, this bow maker comes with this little
narrow string. If you're just starting out to learn how to
make bows, I would go back and use a piece of ribbon in here.
This is kind of hard when you've got all of the ribbon in
between your fingers to try to tie it. So we're going to take a
different kind of ribbon. Pick me out something
really p retty. >> Not wired.
>> Let's use the pretty
red right there. So this one is called the Bowdabra. And it's
really made the same way, moving the loops and all that. What
I'm going to do
is actually use -- leave my ribbon on here. This is
one-sided ribbon. We have our snowflakes on one side, it's a
little bit more narrow. It's the same size as the other one.
But I'm going to
cut off about 12 inches or so a piece.
And if you're going to follow the instructions in the manual,
this is what you're going to put in. I really like the ribbon
better. It's going to easy -- be easier for you to use. I'm
going to put that down in between my two spaces on my
Bowdabra. You know what? This one is made exactly
the same way. The thing you have to remember, except we've got
our handy dandy -- I have to put my wrong side down first with a
twist. This is what I have left over from my bow. I've got my
right side -- what I'm going to do is I have to take my bow in
there. And this really comes into play more when you've got a
whole bunch of -- getting pushed down in there. I've got
to do the same thing. I've got to twist the bow down here where
you make your next loop. I've got to get the pretty side back
up again. I'm going to put a few more loops on here and show you
how the handy dandy -- >> One of our audience members
want to know, how would you get extra gold thread that comes
with the Bowdabra if that's what you
like to use? >> Cara, this really is just
like a gold string. Like -- we probably have
something like this in the
gift wrap department. Again, any kind of string. This happens to
be gold. Depending on what color your m aking, because I
used to the chenille stems because it gives me the stem to
attach it to whatever I'm going to, then I just color coordinate
my chenille stem. >> You can use whatever you want
to use. If you want the
gold string -- >> I don't believe we carry this
as an extra SKU. So you would have to improvise, which we love
to do. Let me put a couple more down here. I've got a couple of
loops down there. Here's where the handy dandy plunger comes
in. What it does is it pushes it all the way down to the bottom.
Now I've got it stuck. That didn't do so very well. It's
really more when you have a thicker bow.
>> You're going to show us some ways to use these bows, besides
the fabulous pile we have here? >> I'm sure you guys have
questions out there. Tina?
>> Tina wants to know how much this Bowdabra costs.
>> Both of the bow makers are about $10 I believe. Around in
there. We have things on sale all
the time too. Of course, this is something that once you buy
one, it's going to -- >> Buy them for your friends if
you notice the making really terrible bows on your Christmas
presents. >> [Laughter] last week when I s
aid, Sara, you might want to remake that both --
>> I handed it back to you. >> I would never say that to
you. I'm going to go ahead and cut the end off here. So I've
got my bow stacked up in there. Remember I tied my piece of
ribbon in between the two that way. When I lifted this up, I'm
lifting that bottom piece of too. I've got my piece I did
there. I'm going to let you
turn around. >> Feel so special.
>> I can say I made this bow, r ight? Because I tied it?
>> I would give you all the credit for that. And he wants to
know, which is your favorite bow maker?
>> I have to tell you, if I were not going to make my bows by
hand -- I got used to making so many, I have to tell you that I
think the easy bow maker is a little bit easier to use. I'm
not saying there's absolutely anything wrong with either one.
It is going to be what you
get used to. I think you can just hold it down and push it in
there. So again, what you need
to do -- so what we're going to do is -- you have to -- you have
to
go back.
What we're going to do -- I'm going to show you some of the
other ribbons that we have and some bows. I'm going to take
this off because it drives me crazy. We've got to clean up the
edges and make this bow look really pretty. I think my
scissors have eaten a few pieces of wire there. I would never go
back and use scissors after I have used wire to cut a piece of
fabric like that. But you could still cut
paper or whatever. So again, push your tail down, how you
want
them to. >> Chenille stems, if you made
it -- >> So the chenille stem would
have been the first thing that went in instead of the long
piece of r ibbon. Then we would bring our chenille stem up. I'm
going to show you how to make it by hand. Easier to do that. So
now again, 3 yards, about average size for a bow. Let's
use one of the pretty ribbons that's kind of the same on both
-- I love this. This is the most beautiful ribbon. I actually
put this on my Christmas tree. Yes. So I'm going to start --
you should have a piece of ribbon too, M s. Sara. So let's
let you cut a piece. And you can practice. Then you have to turn
that. We have to
show you. >> Or I could just --
>> Or one of the beautiful pieces of ribbon that we have.
>> I like to leave
long tails on my bows. Here's the magic. It's all in the
twist. I'm going to put my ribbon up together like this.
Then I'm going to put my fingers in here. I'm going to twist it.
What it amounts to is that I have made the center -- make
sure you can see the center of my bow. And then my pointer
finger and my thumb on my best friends. And this is all I'm
going to do. I'm going to hold the
ribbon like that. Sometimes, some of us just need
more examples. >> Sometimes it takes a village,
right? We say that every day. Fold your ribbon in have. And
now just go in, and I want you to twist it so that you've got a
twist in the middle. >> Can you show me the twist, J
oAnn? >> I don't think I did that very
good myself. That was not one of my -- you're doing the very
thing that most people are going to do when they make
a bow. You know what? You can't take the ribbon like this and
twist it this way. Okay? You've got to twist it so
that your two pieces separate to make a bow. So you've got it
started. Let's move this so we can see how you
are progressing. Now, take it like this,
twist that, and then separated these two strings and keep your
thumb and pointer finger -- it's like a miracle. How many times
-- I only have to show you once. I'm going to get mind twisted.
Here's what we've got. This makes the middle of your bow.
It's important to do that. So I'm just going to take my
ribbon. When you're making bows by hand like this, your first
loop you make is going to be the longest loop. It's going to be
the longest. And look what I did. I gathered
it in the back. Then I have to twist it again. Those two
fingers, it's just your thumb, that's a little
bit long. >> Smaller?
>> Remember, that's the first start of your bow.
>> I thought you meant the biggest.
>> We are learning. This is a learning process.
>> Okay. The first loop is going to be your smallest loop. Maybe
I did say that wrong. I apologize if I did. I'm going to
bring my next loop up and I'm going to twist it. You know
what? If you are having trouble, you can go to Michaels.com. I'm
pretty sure we have a one by one on how to make a bow. So I'm
going to go ahead and continue making this bow. The ribbon -- I
don't know if I mentioned this before --
>> These ribbons are on sale. Right now. In the stores, 60%
off, over 350 styles. We've got glitter, Christmas characters,
burlap, holiday ribbon boutique.
>> How could you not go in and want to buy one of every kind?
What's fun about this too, there probably isn't anything you
could have to your Christmas that we don't have a ribbon that
goes with it. Traditional red, white, green,
beautiful silver
and gold, whimsical, quirky Christmas things that you make,
and I do have to say -- I think you
have outdone yourself on this sweater.
>> I wish I could say that
I made it. >> We're going to let her go
with that one, guys. I'm going to finish up this bow. Going to
keep twisting and turning. This ribbon here as we talked a bout,
let's look. I have three loops. One, two, three. I have two on
this side which means to make my bow even, I'm going to put the
third loop in there. I think we used some of the ribbon to make
the other bows so it's a little bit short. My chenille stem,
best friend, I'm going to put it through the center loop. See?
And then I'm going to bring it around the back. I'm going to
pull it tight. And I'm going to twist it.
Okay? So now -- >> One more time?
>> It goes through the middle of your loop.
Okay? Put it underneath your thumb that you've got there.
Come around to the back. That's a pretty
good bow. >> I'm kind of impressed there,
M s. Sara. >> It is the magic
of Christmas. >> Then we've got our -- see
what
I did wrong? I didn't have enough for my
tail. Okay? But I could take another
piece of ribbon and just put it underneath my chenille stem to
give
me my longstem. So look, I'm going to use my fingers and I'm
going to
shape it. Had I done it right and gotten and a jik -- had I
gotten an A, I've got my tail there. My two tails. I did this
one right. So look at what a beautiful bow you have.
>> That's beautiful. >> Diana needs ideas for
decorations in the middle. You know what? Never fear. We've got
everything you need. So let's say you make a
beautiful read and you've got
your beautiful bow that Ms. Sara -- you've got your beautiful
wreath -- and these will go down the
regular Christmas aisle, and when you've got it on, look how
pretty it looks down the middle of your ribbon. And put it on a
wreath. What's fun too, we've got all kinds of things that we
could decorate bows with. Gift bags are so big, not necessarily
a person who doesn't want to wrap packages but -- let's take
one of our pretty bows. We kept our tails -- we've got our stem
tails on here. We filled
our bag. Look at what we can do. We can tie it on. Whoever gets
this fabulous present, I produce something for Christmas, but
the bag is empty. Sorry. It was candy. And I ate it.
Sorry. They can take the ball off and use it for something.
Let's think of something else we can put in the middle. Look at
this. >> This is frosty.
>> Will you personalize this for m e? I'm going to tie that in
the middle of my bow. We've got these great little clay
ornaments. Two dollars or something like that. You can
take a sharpie marker and personalize it for your friends.
We can hang that like on a bag. Or the great Chinese boxes that
you had. The
takeout boxes. It's over there eating the candy. When you are
going to put a wreath on -- a bow on your wreath, let's say
you have a big Christmas like one of the PVC wreaths. What you
can do is tie the bow in the wreath and then take some extra
ribbons and just put it in and out through the wreath. You
don't have to hot glue it or put it on with a chenille stem.
Just take a piece of the Christmas wreath and that's how
you fill your wreath. There's one awesome thing to do with
ribbon. Think about using something as wide as this. This
is probably five or
6 inches wide. Over there. This is really a beautiful ribbon.
What's fun is this has got like 25-foot on it. So that's going
to make a big, beautiful bow for the top of your tree. Then take
the ribbon and push it into the tree and fill up your t ree. It
really makes a beautiful idea for doing the bows too.
So today, which is awesome, we have all of this fabulous ribbon
for sale in the stores. How many SKUs?
>> Over 350. >> That's holiday. That's not
even counting the everyday ribbon. We have ribbon even with
mustaches on it. It's fabulous. You had a little package over t
here. Bows can go. We've got to put those on talk -- on top of
our packages. I'd like to see how to make a small one.
>> I'm going to do this little small bow. Exactly the same way.
Going to leave my tail. I'm going to make a little twist.
I've got my finger in between the bow.
>> Is it taller -- is it harder to make it smaller?
>> Make your kids do it because their fingers are smaller.
>> [Laughter] they still have to turn the ribbon. So I've made
my loop. I'm going to give you this. And
move this. I've made my loop. And look what I did. I had to
turn my ribbon in the b ack. Again, I'm holding it with my
son and my pointer finger. I'm just going to keep making --
>> We might suggest buying double-sided ribbon. If you are
bad at the twist -- >> You still need it close
together in the back to put your chenille stem around. When we
were kids, we made the ribbon where you know you loop it and
you cut the two little wedges out of it. Those were in the
olden days. So I'm just going to keep making this little tiny
bow. I'm going to leave you a piece of ribbon to tie around
the box. So I'm going to take -- I would actually use the black
chenille stem. But the silver doesn't
look back either. >> That is not wired. But it
still works. >> Right. I'm going
to cut -- going to cut my edge is straight. I have a little
tiny bow. You've got a cute little package. I didn't see
that wrapping paper. >> This is scrapbook paper. This
is one of my favorite things I've been doing this holiday s
eason. Picking out these really neat textures, scrapbook papers
that we have in open stock paper, so this is kind of a
velvet -- we even have chalkboard paper. We talked
about earlier you can wrap your package in.
>> You are going to put a little bow around. And we can --
member when you are wrapping packages, you can hot glue your
bows on. >> More fun for the purpose --
for the person opening it. >> Or tying them on when you
come around and tie a regular package and do that.
So if you have any questions out there on any of the things
we've made today, we would love for you to watch the little
messages along the bottom of your screen. You can see what's
on sale, look and see what we're making next. Tell me how much
like my sweater. >> Or not.
>> Ms. Sara, -- I love your s weater. I'm pleased you actually
shopped for that. >> I did. I've done a special --
to keep these down -- >> I've got my little tiny bow.
I can hot glue it on my little package. Look how cute that is.
>> Thinking about the ribbon that we have that you can
make, hair bows, we put the bow on our Christmas tree,
remember that ginormous bow, about 25
yards -- >> Want to go today while it's
on sale so that you can buy 100 walls.
>> Or if you were going to buy me a new car, I would want one
of those ginormous bows on the top of my new car. You could do
that too. Go into the store today. Find some great ribbon.
Think about all the fun pictures you can do. And make some
presence. There's lots of different things we can use.
With boxes, bags, we
have pre-done boxes. Remember about using the ribbon in your
tree. And please remember that when you're going to make that
beautiful bow, to finish the edges. And you can show us.
>> Show us what you've made. >> We would love that. We would
love for you to go on Facebook and show us what you've made
today. We hope you learned how to make a bow. If you can't make
the one out of the bow makers, and you get so frustrated that
you can't make it, please go into your floral designer at
your local
Michaels store. Time permitting, they could actually teach you
how to make a bow. Okay? So instead of putting a bird on it,
we're going to say, put a bow on i t. We're live again at
2:30. We can't wait for you to come back because we've got more
great stuff to show you. See
you then. >>
[event concluded]
Please stand by

. >> Hi, friends. Welcome back to
Cyber Monday, with myself, Sara and missed
Jo Pearson. This -- Ms. Jo Pearson. This is a Quirky Little
Christmas. Naturally we are going to
be making minis. There like Christmas miniatures. We are
going to be creating some funky trees.
>> They are very
vintage looking. >> You can make up your own
words. >> Yeah. It's just a few
different m aterials. And then of course the little miniatures
that you are going to put inside of there. The first step we are
going to do is making these trees.
Which the little trees, I absolutely love them. They
remind me of the '50s. And so we're going to change the color.
They come in packs. We have the big ones that come in a pack of
five or six. And then the minis. This is magic. You're
going to watch magic happen right before your eyes. We're
going to take a piece of palette paper, and I'm going to show
you on the big tree so you can see what happens. Were going to
be using alcohol I nc., which is what the
magic is.is. >> While you all are watching
out there, if you have any questions you want to ask us,
please look at the messages on the bottom of your screen. We
would love to hear from you. We will try to answer any question
you have weather on this project or just another question that
you h ave. Sara, look. It's magic.
>> I'm going to start dripping that alcohol ink from the top of
the trees. The way the tree is -- going to start moving this to
the end
and it will start changing colors.
>> Absorbing its down in there. >> It is.
>> Anna wants to know, what kind of paint that you are using?
>> This is actually alcohol ink.
So it's kind of a watery ink. And it is alcohol-based. So not
really for the kids to use, but you could do this for them and
let it dry. >> What's really cool about this
alcohol ink is you can use it like this is something really
unusual to use it on because it's just so fun. It absorbs
into the fibers. But you can use it on metal, wood, chipboard,
you could use it on fabric. But it's a little bit different. Got
to change the colors. It's just so beautiful.
>> The dry time is important to let it completely dry. Since it
is an ink, it will stain. You can wear gloves if you plan on
getting this on your fingers. But today, we are just dripping
this on here. You just drop it from the top and it pretty much
absorbs all the way down. You could take a small
bottle of alcohol, which we sell with the alcohol ink, it's
going to break up and let it run.
>> It comes in a spritzer bottle. When you look for this
in your Michaels store, it's going to be in the scrap booking
Department. And it comes three colors to a package. So you pick
out every color. You have to have it all. Something else that
is works fabulously on,
the porcelain ornaments. Dri-fit on there and it makes puddles.
>> Drop
the colors. >> -- drip it on there.
>> So it's beautiful. We have some that are
already dried. We are going we are going to take a Mason jar.
The Mason jar -- this is the comeback kid. They are
everywhere in case you haven't seen them. On Pinterest and in
stores. We're going to build a
little seen -- scene. >> This smooth jar doesn't
have any ornaments -- any writing on it. So it is
perfectly clear. If you find one with writing on it, you can
turn it on, so it moves to the side. We're using a medium-sized
Mason jar. We have large ones with the big sparkly tree. Just
as it is. We added a little bit of sparkly ribbon, tinsel again,
just nostalgic Christmas look. >> I mentioned the porcelain
ornaments. Just to let you know, they are on sale, 50% off.
There's different shapes. Crosses and balls and ornament
shapes. If you're going to try that, it's just so cool, drop
the alcohol ink on the porcelain ornament.
And if puddles and it does the work for you. --
it puddles. >> I'm going to glue this piece
into the ring so that it is secure. This is what you're
going to put a piece of Styrofoam down in.
>> So these are not meant to put water in.
>> These ones are actually just going to be waterless snow
globes. A lot of these materials we are using would start to
come apart and dissolve in water unless you seal them -- that's
a whole 'nother process. We are going to shake some glitch in
there and still play with them. That's just for decoration only.
mix different colors of the alcohol ink.
>> They look beautiful when you make some together. They will
blend, dropping them on porcelain, they just start --
the lines blur a lines blur a little bit.
>> A puddle in together. I would start with the dark color
first. And then at the light color to it.
>> If you mess up, the great thing is the bottle of clear
alcohol, you could scored the whole thing and start over and
it would wipe it o ff. >> So we like that.
>> We could probably take this. I love them just -- bright
colors, the way they are. >> We saw the green. But I
wanted a pink one. This is a piece of Styrofoam, one of the
shapes I used earlier. Cut it in half. We are going to hot glue
it down into the Mason jar. >> Your edges look really
rounded. What did you do? >> Aside from secret -- the
Styrofoam secret. So if you fit it in here and you
see that there's going to be too much of Styrofoam, your jar
won't fit on top, just take it out, and you're going to use the
other piece of Styrofoam and just take it around the edge,
just really smooth and acts as sandpaper.
>> That's cool. >> We make the bottom a little
smaller so it will fit in there.
>> You do have to make sure when you are putting this be --
putting the piece of Styrofoam down, -- you did. You put --
>> You are jumping ahead. >> I'm getting ahead of Ms.
Sara. >> You've got to glue your
Styrofoam down securely. We are using hot glue. Anything with
Styrofoam, hot glue, if it is too hot, it will melt your
Styrofoam. If you're not worried about that, it's on the bottom
of their. --
there. So it looks like snowy hills. So we're going to
take some Mod Podge. We put this on everything and it looks
vintage. So we're going to take -- this crystal glitter like
this is the closest thing to German glass glitter. But it is
not glass. >> Chunky, still see through.
>> It's really beautiful. >> There's not a wrong way to
decorate the top of your Styrofoam. We want it to look
like a winter wonderland inside of their. I added a little bit
to the top. >> You are using Mod Podge?
>> I'm using Mod Podge. And this is just gloss Mod Podge, but
you could use the sparkle, which we love.
>> Peggy wants to know, can I use any kind of Mod Podge?
>> You could even shake this on top of here and it will sit on
top. And you can shake up your snow globe.
>> Having a little bit of it stick is -- we kind of like that
so that we sprinkle a little bit on top and it's really --
>> It sparkles. >> We are going to at our tree.
These trees -- they come in a little stand. You're welcome to
glue the stand right on top of there. So I pull it -- so now we
need a little wire. >> Wire cutters, you can pull it
out of the base. We're going to get some hot glue. Add it to
the bottom. And just shove it right in the Styrofoam. That's
an official turn too. >> [Laughter] that's one of
those technical terms. >> Whatever you want, put it
right in the middle. And then now we're going
to add -- >> That's so cute.
>> The little mama and
baby gear. -- deer. >> We have the teeny tiny sled.
And so we have the Christmas minis in the store right now.
We've got little snowmen and a s led. That's my favorite, the
deer. >> All of the holiday minis our
40% off all week. You know what? If you were to go to somebody's
house for a housewarming, just sometimes fun to take someone a
little housewarming gift or something.
And take that to them. >> We are putting a little bit
of hot glue on the bottoms of the feet in case a kid comes and
grabs your snow globe, shakes it around. They're not going to
fall out. That would be sad. >> Are you going to put the
snowflakes down in there? >> I want to put more of this
glitter down in there. So when I shake it --
>> Put it inside of the jar. So everything is pretty
secure in here. Just for a few minutes before you shake it
around too much. >> I won't put a lot. That's
kind of a lot. >> Is that too much?
>> You can't have too much. >> What would you like?
>> I'm going to put this together.
>> Is that okay? >> Everything is glued in place.
The best way is to just put it down in there. It's really
important to make sure that you have a clear edge around your
Styrofoam so that your jar will actually twist whenever you put
it in. >> Don't get that far and
realize it doesn't work. It's kind of all in --
>> That would be embarrassing. >> I love it.
>> It's going to snow. Shake it around.
>> Some of that snow state on the tree. Looks fabulous.
>> Or you could put some glue on the tree and a little on the
deer so that it looks like it's been snowing. We are going to
embellish the bottom because the ring is a little lackluster.
>> We're going to have some g litter. This is over in holiday
trimmed t oo. Secret, there's actually wire in there. Did you
leave the wire in there? >> I would recommend pulling it
out because we are going to hot glue i t. You can include with
the wire in. Use double-sided tape for that. Pulling the wire
out -- we're going to get enough to wrap around.
>> This is cute too. Look at the
little pom-poms. >> We're going to take our
little piece of
tinsel ribbon. If you push down, you can find the wire. Pull it
out. Easy like that. >> I made you a bow.
>> It will wrap easier and it won't feel like popping off and
hitting you in the face. >> Thank you. I'm so glad I
didn't get hit in the head by a snow globe.
>> We're going to put hot glue around the ring. It gets a
little hot. But again, you can
use double-sided tape. That's another great friend of m ine.
>> It is our friend. We have a lot of craft supplies.
>> I made you a bow. >> Bow making Queen made me a
bow. >> You could wear it in your
hair. >> So you have your little minis
in a jar. >> I do think this is one of my
favorite, though. I love this. This tree comes like that. You
don't have to put anything -- we glue did write to the base on
the inside of the
Mason
jar. -- we glued it right to the
base. >> They are very popular again.
>> We are going to
make ornaments. I'm sure your kids
would actually love them. >> This is not exactly
your typical run-of-the-mill -- >> There a little funky. That's
why I love them. I love animals. So we got these from the kids
section, which obviously I f requent. I buy glitter. Animals
and everything. We got sea creatures, Safari tubes, because
nothing says Christmas like an
octopus ornament. >> [Laughter]
>> That's my favorite one. We are making a hammerhead shark
ornament. >> What's fun sometimes is we
actually go to the store when we are working on a project,
sometimes we have to just walk around the store and think out
of that box. So
we're out-of-the-box. >> We're so far out-of-the-box,
we can't even see it. We have these plastic animals. And I'm
going to find the one that I want, which is the hammerhead
shark. Obviously, he looks true to life, gray shark. That's not
good enough for me. So I'm going to paint him.
>> The little tube animals are in the kids department.
Hanging on a little power panel.
Sometimes people have a hard time finding them but there's
all kinds of different containers of these. So there's
farm animals, individual, a bunch of different things.
>> These are the perfect size. If you need 20 ornaments, buy 12
and you've got enough animals
to do it. -- buy
one tuba -- buy one tube. >> These can go on wood, paper,
plastic, metal, anything with the Martha Stewart paint. Really
kind of cool. But again, now that it is December, not exactly
perfect weather. >> The kids can paint these with
the acrylic paint. We don't want the kids spray painting.
You need to do that in a well ventilated area outside.
>> We're not doing that today. >> This is really the best way
to paint these. >> Once you've gotten a few
coats on it, you want two or three coats unless you prime it.
Just because it was a darker color, I really wanted the
vibrant hot pink of course. And so that's not all we're going to
do. I have my pink
hammerhead shark. He wants to be hot pink. And we're going to
add glitter. >> You wouldn't use pink
glitter, would you? >> Thank you, JoAnn. I'm going
to -- you don't have to do this to all of your ornaments, but
some of them hang better if you add one of these little screw
eyes to the top of that. Just a tiny little screw with a loop on
the top. Some of their, there's no way to attach strings to. If
it is round or something. >> This one
actually has -- >> You don't have to drill a
hole or anything on top of it. The plastic is pretty malleable.
And I'm really strong. So I shoved it in there and screwed
it in. That's where you are going to attach or string to.
First, we're going to go back to the
Mod Podge. >> It must be the atomic sweater
that you have on that makes you so strong.
>> I love it. >> You know what? This cute
little tree right here, we have these in all different colors at
the store. They're going to be down in the aisle. If there's
one that is hot pink -- is fuchsia
hot pink. Actually, you're hammerhead shark would get lost
in it. So it really looks best on this little white tree. Did
you make that start on the top of the tree?
>> I
did. That's mind -- that's my little chenille stem attempt at
a tree topper. And we used that in the Mason jar project.
>> Yeah. This is that butchers twine they call it.
>> So I put Mod Podge all over my shark. We can do sections.
Hammerhead hot pink glitter shark. This is for the
quirky crafter, don't want just a red or green ball this year.
Wants to branch out or make it for your kids.
>> Ryan, thank you for your question, wants to know, can you
paint the inside of the jar with alcohol ink?
>> For my jar project I just did?
Absolutely. You could take your jar, put a few drops in there,
hold it upside d own, add some of the alcohol solution, and
then swirl it around and you will get a really cool swirl
effect or land colors. And the more alcohol you add, the
clearer it will be so you can see through it. You can make it
as dark as you w ant. >> The glass ornaments that we
did earlier with the glitter, you can't dribble it down in the
glass ball. It swirls beautiful on metal too. Whatever it is
with the reaction with the metal,
the chemical reaction. >> Make it beautiful.
>> The little hammerhead -- we cannot leave him out. We're just
going to add the Mod Podge. Going to sprinkle glitter onto
it. And you don't have to seal it or anything. It should be
fine. This one here, we have added the screw on the top. And
a bit of bakers twine. You can just buy a big role of it and
then -- >> It comes in different colors.
roles of different colors. Which we have used different
colors on the tree of course. To match the rainbow.
>> When you were talking earlier about making your own tags,
if you are really into punching out your own tag and put your
own -- >> If you are bigger and giving
somebody cupcakes, but I use it on sea creature ornaments as
well. -- if you are
a baker. >> When you put that twine on
that other little hammerhead, don't you think --
>> Fabulous earrings. >> Subtly hinting that she wants
hearings. >> They're going to go really
well with that sweater -- not. >> I will make them to match.
Existing cutouts that we have on the Christmas aisle in
the store, and if you can't tell, I kind of like animals.
Little bit of an animal person. I'm going to do this really
great wood plaque reindeer have that we have. We have big ones
and little ones. I have some little ones that are already
finished. >> Have to keep this little
hammerhead somewhere because I know it's going to disappear.
>> Of course, we need a big one. There's going to be -- using
acrylic paint, Mod Podge, and the magic word, if anybody knows
it is glitter. Because it is Christmas.
>> We are absolutely
crazy with glitter. >> You know what? Today, there's
a 50 off coupon that you can use on any one item in the
store. That's not on sale merchandise, so it is on regular
priced item. >> Because you don't have enough
glitter. >> I have to tell you, it's time
to buy more Mod Podge. I'm going to by that hard Mod Podge
that we talked about earlier. >> You can put it outside.
That's great too. So it's a little would reindeer
cut out. We're going to add some paint.
And on the wood, you can pretty much use any type
of paint. You want to paint the face?
>> Rudolph -- stayed out in the cold too
long. Turned blue. >> We're getting quirky,
out-of-the-box. >> I love your little turquoise
reindeer. >> You could do lime green,
Brown, -- >> Fun little colors that you
have here with the others. >> Any acrylic paint is going to
work fine. Would does not really react with any any
paint. -- wood does not really react
with any paint. >> Could I put it outside?
>> I would not recommend -- the elements might wash some of your
paint off. If you want to seal it with Hard Podge or buy a
spray sealer, there's ones that
we carry. >> Just spray it really well and
you could put it -- it would be safe underneath like an
overhang or a porch or something.
>> Hang them from the trees like -- I know Jo has some stuff
hanging from her trees. >> They are not deer.
>> One coat should just about do i t. It takes -- it takes
paint pretty well. >> Can I ask you, do you paint
the backs of your things? >> I do actually. There was a
point in my life where I didn't know you were supposed to do
that. And my -- my dear sweet friend, JoAnn, corrected me.
>> It's really not a correction. Not like somebody has to do
that but it's funny, sometimes when I get something from
someone -- I I think it looks finished. It
didn't take me but a couple minutes to paint the back and it
looks finished. Something else you should always do with your
artwork, sign it. >> Absolutely.
>> Even if it is your initials, sign it and put your initials.
>> JoAnn made this, real big. >> And the edges. Paint your
edges and the back. You could do any color, spray paint it, you
could use Mod Podge and scrapbook paper. That's another
simple way for you to glue it on top. And then cut it out. So we
have a dry one right here. And again,
gold glitter. If you haven't learned by now, that's my
favorite. We're going to do the face first. I really like these
quirky -- I'm going to paint it, actually. I'm going to paint
it. Just take a little bit of white and black paint. You could
put eyes on anything and bring it to life.
>> I can't draw. So I always have to use like a sharpie.
>> You don't have to draw -- it's Dot's and a lot of times I
just use the bottoms of my paint brushes to make those things.
Circles and you could just draw a big smile
on there. >> So there's a trade-off. I
will make your Bose, you paint my eyeballs.
>> There you go. >> -- I will
make your bows. >> Painting eyeballs on my own
reindeer. >> You can make my ornaments.
So we're just going to paint little circles.
>> Could you use this bouncer for that too?
>> I'm doing things the hard way.
>> You can draw and paint. For those of us who cannot make
rounds circles, you could print out a little reindeer. You can
glue your picture on here if you wanted to.
>> You can glue my picture? >> [Laughter] I'm not sure
anybody wants my picture on the front of the reindeer.
>> I'm sure your husband would like that.
>> He's really cute. >> Very simple. He's going to
have a quirky little face. I'm not going to do a
very realistic dear -- deer. We're going to do little
circles for eyes. You can use the hairdryer like we mentioned.
Just to speed up the process. >> What are you
putting your painting stuff on? >> My favorite thing in the
world. >> Palette paper. -- it comes in
a package. You can get it in a palette. And you can buy it in
the art department. It's fabulous for putting all of your
paint on. That's what you work off of instead of your
tablecloth, I guess. Your old tablecloth work great too.
>> That's true. We just have a piece of Brown paper -- be sure
when you're painting and gluing and doing all those things, make
sure you protect what you are on. You don't want to be
hammering on your dining room table.
>> I took a bigger paint brush that has a larger tip on the
bottom. Dipped it in black paint and that makes a really quick
circle. >> I can do that. We carry
little tools called stylus that you can make all of the little
dots of things. It does make it a -- perfect circles. Sharpie
marker. Hello.
>> Just paint a little face. It's going to be -- if you don't
like it, you don't have to do it like this. This is just the
little creatures I like to make.
>> Kind of different sizes. >> We have the large one here
that you can hang up. And small ones, I was going to turn this
into ornaments for my tree. >> We could stay in this too if
you wanted it to be more natural looking and Brown, you could
put a stain on it. >> Or water down some Brown
acrylic paint. >> If you want
to antiques something, you don't have it, let's say you're doing
this at 10:00 at night, Michaels is closed, you can take
Brown paint and water it down a little bit. And always try it
on something before you go head over heels and put on what
you're going to do because you can always add more to it but
you cannot take it up. >> You could let it dry and take
sandpaper and do that. >> I need that tomorrow morning
at 8:00. I'm doing that on Christmas Eve. I know you've got
some great questions out there for us. We love for you to ask
them of us. And if it is when we are not on
right here, you can call the 1(800)M ichaels helpline.
And one of us -- we have little else that will answer your
questions. You have to remember to leave your area code -- we
have little elves. I've made great friends on the line but I
hate when you -- when I can't answer your question.
>> Jo likes to talk on the phone. Give her a call.
>> The other thing is, remember that there are some great deals
going on in the Michaels stores today.
Actually, all the way up until Christmas. Everything you could
possibly want. >> $0.99 charges, red ribbon,
60% off on your ribbons, holiday ribbons. And there's a daily
deal every day that is good for that
one day. There's a daily deal that changes. There's not just
one daily deal, there's lots of them. Be sure and go to
Michaels.com. Or get your flyer in the mail with all of that. So
we are live again at 3:30 central time.
So -- we still have to put glitter on the antlers.
>> The Mod Podge has left me. >> I think it is with the
Crop-a-dile. Pretty sure. Sorry. It took off earlier.
>> It's like the dry that took our socks.
>> Again, I'm sure you all have this down by now. Do a nice,
sick, code of Mod Podge. I'm going to use
the chunky glitter. So put the Mod Podge on and then sprinkle
your
glitter. And you know what? We've got a
great little quirky Christmas deer.
>> We love it. We hope you join us again at 3:30. We've got more
fun crafts. We'll
be here. >>
[event concluded]
Please stand by

>> We have had the best time crafting with you today. Thank
you for joining me, Sarah. We are not finished. We've got one
of the hottest products in the Michaels store or out there in
the universe that we are going to show you how to work with
today. >> Great.
>> If not, you can tune back
in and find -- 25% off this week in-store. This is called floral
mesh. People call it a bunch of different things. I have to tell
you I've been crafting for a really long time. This is one of
my all-time favorite products to use. It just has so many
things you can do with it. You see those absolutely gorgeous
wreaths made out of this. I had so many people, they were so
intimidated by how to make that wreath.
It's the easiest thing we're going to do today. So let's get
started. Now, this mesh comes in three
different sizes. This is the biggest that it comes in. And
actually, this makes a great tree topper, because it's so
big. We will make a ball with it later. The other thing it is
awesome for is putting in your Christmas tree. It takes up some
fun places in the Christmas tree. This is the next size.
This is like the 12-inch. And then this is probably the most
popular, the 6-inch. This is what we are going to make our
wreath with today. Some of the mesh comes in the narrow which
would be for smaller, more of like a rib and then this.
But let's get started. Now, there are several
different wreaths shapes -- probably my favorite is this
wire form. I will tell you that the wreath we're going to show
you is going to take
four bolts. We're making the peppermint. It's going to take
four of those. Felicia wants to know what colors the mesh comes
in. It comes in a fabulous
variety of colors. We have all the Christmas colors. Red,
green, white, gold. It came in seasonal colors. We have black
and orange. And we saw the preview, really cool stuff
coming in for Easter. But the main colors, red and
white and green and obviously the gold --
>> There is a burlap color. >> Some of this, you're going to
find in the seasonal department. Some over in the
wedding d epartment. By the ribbons. So let's get started.
I'm going to give you this wreath form. I'm going to show
you that this is the easiest way. I've seen the wreath made
to where they have kept all of the mesh and attached it and
kept going. I have to tell you the easiest thing to do is for
you to make the separate little bows and wire them all onto the
wreath. Amber wants to know, does the form coming other
sizes? It does. This is the medium-size. I believe is one
bigger
and one smaller. Something to think about, when you're going
to put the ribbon on here, you could use the
wide ribbon, because when you make your bow, it's going to be
too wide this way and you're not going to see Sarah's beautiful
face. So you want to use accordingly.
We've got the wire wreath. Also the wooden wreath. This is the
smaller one. And you can use that too. Sometimes what I did,
if you are really thinking you're going to see that wreath
through that, you could take this wreath and wrap it in some
of the
Deco wrapwrap. I made mine so full that you don't see it.
So same way with this. You could wrap this in ribbon if you
wanted to and height it. I don't think it's necessary. So let's
get started. I'm going to leave my ribbon
on my bold -- on my boltson my bolt. Show it to the camera, I'm
going to start at almost the very edge of my ribbon. I will
tell you, this kind of one thing that when you're making these,
if you leave these great big and long, there's really no way to
not have this look a little gnarly at the end. It's just
because -- you can cut i t, but it tends to fray a little bit.
So I start at the very top. I'm almost pleading it. I'm just
pinching it. Then I'm going to take this and I'm going to loop
it under. And I'm going to continue and pinch it. I made my
first loop. A little bit like making a regular bow, except I'm
not twisting it. >> This is easier, actually.
>> The other fun thing about this, you don't have to worry
about turning that side to make sure you've got the right side
of the ribbon. It is sparkly. Another great thing is you can
use it outside because it is really kind of a nylon mesh.
Even if it
gets snow, you can just shake the snow off and will stay
outside and it stays kind of fluffy and cool. So now I'm
going to take and turn it around. I'm going to make my
other loop just about the same size. All I'm doing is just
gathering it back there in the back. To figures holding it. I'm
going to make two loops on either side. What I like to do
is instead of making one and making one and putting it on the
wreath, I will make up a whole bunch of those.
And then go back and assembly line, make my red and white.
Knocked them out. So I'm going to gather that.
Again, chenille stem, my best friend. I'm going to put it
around the middle, pull it tight, and turn it a couple of
times in the back. Okay? Don't cut this off. Leave this on. Go
back and cut it pretty close with your scissors. This is the
first one. I've made several for you. I'm going to let you start
making your wreath. It's going to be magic. I'm going to move
this out of the way. I want you to
watch again. >> You don't really need details
like a ball. It's more about the big loop.
>> Right. You don't want details --
the t ales.ails. >> Just a twist it around the
back of the wire. >> Absolutely.
>> We can trim them later. >> I used
to have a friend, he called that the chenille crank. He kind of
cut it and crank it. And then I leave them back in the back, if
you cut them off and you want to change them, sometimes it makes
its too short. I'm going to go ahead and make another one I
want to show you. I'm going to bring it up. All I'm doing
is pleading
-- pleating it. >> John, -- Joanne, have you
heard the news? >> No.
>> This mesh is 50% off. >> Wow. That makes it about four
or $5. Something like that. This wreaths, you are going to
be able to make this
beautiful wreathful wreath for under $25. I like it's really
full. Remember, that's the big wire ring. We want it nice and
full. So some for your friends.
>> I know. >> I'm getting a little less and
now that you all know how
to do this. >> I'm going to put my chenille
stem around it first. What's fun is to combine the colors. They
are so pretty together. I did orange,
yellow, white. I've seen people making them for their favorite
football teams. >> That is an awesome thing
because you can get all of the school colors and do that. So
look how easy that is. Okay? They're just so nice
and fluffy. >> They don't ever droop.
>> They really stay. It does not have wire in it. But it is just
a stiff ribbon. While we're here, while you're putting that
together, I'm going to show you with the big mesh, --
>> I'm going to -- I'm doing two each so that it looks more
full. >> So it's nice and full. When
you get down to the edge, the reason we don't want to cut off
the tails, you may want to slide them together and do that so it
looks really pretty. I like it really, really full. If you use
the wide on their -- when you've got all of your bows, you're
not going to have a center to your wreath. So I'm going to
basically do the same thing with this wide mesh.
Okay? I've got it like this. If I just gather it with my fingers
like that, look how I've got it. I've got it together like
that. And I'm going to do the same thing.
>> JoAnn, one of our amazing viewers, Carol, wants to know
how much mesh ribbon does it take to make a wreath this size?
size of the mesh. >> Two read and two white. 50%
off, how
can you -- so this is a little bit different because this is so
wide, I'm almost
going to gather that and bring it up to the back and put it
together. What's fun about this is it curls upon itself. That's
what's so awesome about it in a Christmas tree. You can shove it
in there. I'm going to do the same thing on the other side.
I'm going to gather it up. Like so. And then bring it all up
underneath here. So see what the difference is
and how big -- yeah. A lot of difference. I'm going to put one
more loop. >> You could put this one
in your hair. >> I'm just going to bring it
all up there. And again, I'm just holding this
with my some and my fingers behind here -- with my thumb
and fingers. Bring it up. Look how cool. It -- I think it is so
-- >> Makes a big bow.
>> It does. So again, this size would be perfect for the top of
your tree. >> Actually the trees are 50%
off this week. So go get 15 rolls of mesh.
>> Actually, you could make a treetop bow big enough for your
tree with just one role of this.
>> Yeah. Because I would make two of
these. I would make one on the side and make another bow and
put them together and I would send which the top of my tree
down in there. I'm going to take my chenille stem, pull it
really tight, twist it around there a couple times, --
tuned, because Elves Live is coming up next.
