When the whole thing started?
Phew. Actually I don't remember that exactly.
Probably around five or six years ago.
Yeah, when I moved to Berlin.
That was the time when I also realized
how many there are of them
and literally everywhere
First, I never took them with me. That happened a bit later.
I can imagine that this is taking away a lot of your time?
It is! It is indeed! This is hard work! You must stay tuned.
Every day a little more.
Piece by piece
I do it mostly around the afternoon. During that time you still find the most.
And what do you do for a living?
Well, you know how it is with work, huh?
Is not always easy
Let's just say I'm keeping my eyes open
It just didn't work out as I wanted it to, right away.
I get a little bit from where it comes from and a little bit from helping out friends every now and then.
All in all I think I can manage.
Yes, yes, I#ve heard of him
But ...
... he seems like a really weird guy.
Yes, I've heard of him already, and a few times I've even seen him and honestly I think it's somewhat perverse.
I think that's awesome. Wish there were more people around like him.
Well from a psychological point of view you could perhaps assume that he ...
É maybe suffers from some kind of OCD. Maybe a something about hygiene?
Each square-kilometer in Berlin contains an average of 109 dogs
twice as many as in Frankfurt
and thus are only
the ones registered.
There is a total of over one hundred and ten thousand of these animals on Berlin sidewalks
That's almost three times as much as in Hamburg. The average dog
empties his bowels about twice a day.
The weight of the feces varies from race to race and is dependent on the age and
the diet of the quadruped.
If we estimate the weight of an average load around 50 grams
we get a daily total of 8250 kg Berlin-dog-poop.
Do you collect everyone you find?
Theoretically, yes.
But the less meat the dogs food contained, the better.
You learn to see that after a while. Color and consistency changes.
And this does not disgust you at all?
Disgust? No way! How could it?
That's a totally normal thing! The bin men roll around their trash as well, right?!
What's important to me is the cleanliness
One must be careful about hygiene, huh? And I also think that disgust is always somehow acquired through education.
And it's not like I'm hurting anyone by doing that, right?! If anything
they will be happy about clean streets
and I am happy about every pile I collect.
Until it's finished?
That takes it's time!
And it's not that easy!
There are lots of things to take care of.
Dry. It has to be completely dry at first.
Too soft, too mushy and it becomes a mess.
It has to be absolutely dry.
The rest is waiting.
And do you like living alone?
Yes. I think I do.
And then, of course, there are lots of bacteria in there
Not all of them are good
A powder will kill the bad ones
and then it's easier to proceed.
And the smell?
What smell?
You get used to that. Like one can get used to anything.
It evaporates with the time.
And once it's dry it doesn't smell at all any more.
What happens in those bags?
In them there develops a matter that will help creating new things.
You mean a kind of fertelizer? - Exactly.
By now I collected so much,
I could plant a new one every day
I'm looking forward to the Spring. When whole Neukšlln is in full blossom.
