This is Sten. He is addicted to ketchup.
Ketchup addiction...
It's one of the biggest problems in society today.
Many juveniles start it with small things.
The small bags they give you at McDonalds, that's where everything starts.
Those small bags don't seem so dangerous from the start.
You use them for your hamburgers, for your fries,
on your shoes, in the hair if you want to.
But in the end, you can get completely addicted.
For Sten, everything started with a hotdog.
-Hello, can I have a hotdog? -Boiled or grilled?
-Grilled. -Is that good?
15 kronor. Do you want mustard and ketchup on it?
Ketchup, please.
-No mustard? -No mustard.
The taste was overwhelming.
It starts like a trauma for the child.
It might be, that the mother of the affected, has consumed lots of mustard during the pregnancy.
Which makes the addicted to be born with a trauma-
The addiction went on.
Here we have a ready portion bag, you usually find them at McDonald's.
It's very important that you don't have an overdose.
I took an overdose once, and that's dangerous.
You let it out slowly.
Sten goes to the grocery story every day to buy ketchup.
Once you've tasted it, you can never ever forget the taste.
It only gets worse and worse.
So much that it affects your family and friends.
In the end your friends are being replaced with new ones, who has the same problem.
I used to be successful, I had a lot of money.
Now I only get money from the state to survive the day with more ketchup.
Here's an old friend, Enok.
-How long have you been doing this? -I've been doing this for 7 years.
I brought a new bottle today. The old one ran out of ketchup not so long ago.
Now we shut the lid, to keep the flow of ketchup even.
Now that we know what ketchup is, I've only got one thing to say.
Stay away from ketchup.
Wonderful, sweet... ketchup!
Sten has received help with going to a rehab.
Documents From The Outside will follow Sten and Enok in a later program.
