The purpose of this video is to introduce you to eLMO.
First, let's think about the ways colleagues tend to
spend time together.
For many of us, the only way we spend time together
is in the traditional meeting.
In most traditional meetings, there is a very specific arrangement.
Typically there is a set agenda.
Usually one person controls the agenda, pace, and
structure of the meeting.
Often there is someone who arrives late
while others may have to leave early.
Sometimes attendees are asked to provide a report.
It is common for one or two people to
dominate the conversation.
And when this goes on for very long,
others become bored or distracted.
They are present, but not engaged.
What if we change things around a bit?
Let's eliminate the rigid agenda and
get rid of the clunky boardroom table.
What if we got together in a space that was
more like a coffee shop.
No one person is "in charge", everyone is
seated near each other,
and those who do not want to be thereā¦
aren't there.
More people are engaged in the conversation.
We get different results, right?
Now, how do we create that kind of environment
when people are separated geographically?
How do we provide both space and opportunity
for meaningful connection and exchange of ideas.
Clearly, a website alone is not going to make that happen.
So while the eLMO site is an important piece of the puzzle,
eLMO is much more than a website.
eLMO is a selection of self-directed learning options
for management development, anchored by a virtual meeting place
for the community of leaders and managers who choose to
take part in any of these components.
Let's look at some of these options.
The Knowledge Exchange Program connects peers who face similar challenges
allowing participants to learn from each other's practical experiences.
Book Club invites you read a book, and discuss it online
through a series of guided questions
Participants explore the latest leadership research and theory with a
community of like-minded professionals interested in expanding
awareness and improving practice.
And the first rule of Book Club is "Talk about Book Club."
The Issues Forum brings leaders and managers together around
critical topics to develop potential solutions for meeting identified challenges.
Challenge Teams, State Leadership Academies, the Real Leaders Listen Webinar Series
and the Mentor Blog offer still other ways for participants to
become a member of the eLMO community.
In the next video, we take a look at how the eLMO site
will act as a hub for all of these activities.
