How ya' doin' there? This is Simon Bingham. We're chillin' at No Comply Skateboard Shop,
in Austin, Texas, and I'm going to tell you a little bit about who's said to have invented
the skateboard. Basically, a lot of different people had effects on this. There was kids
in cities back in the twenties and thirties that would make little scooters, and sometimes
the handle part of it would fall off, and so they would just go ahead and ride around
on it with just their feet for fun, so they had a little part of inventing skateboarding.
And then also, surfers played a big part in it because they wanted to practice their surfing
while there wasn't any good waves happening so they, you know, took roller skate wheels
and put em' on pieces of wood and made their own skateboards. But it actually wasn't until
1958 that Thomas Welch actually put the first patent on a skateboard, so technically he
invented the first skateboard. But, that's an explanation of other people that may have
invented the skateboard as well.
