Supporters, opponents of ousted President Morsy clash in Egypt
To the latest out of Egypt now... Around 30 people have died in violent clashes
between the supporters and opponents of ousted President Mohammed Morsy.
Park Ji-won has the details. The unrest in Egypt took a turn for the worse on Friday
as pro and anti-Morsy protesters clashed in cities across the country.
Morsy supporters and Muslim Brotherhood backers confronted security forces on the streets
of Cairo and in Egypt's second largest city, Alexandria.
Various media reports around 30 people were killed, including twelve in Alexandria, as
clashes went on deep into the night. Several hundred more were wounded,... as troops
opened fire on crowds of Morsy supporters. Meanwhile, the African Union has suspended
Egypt from all activities for the military's ousting of Morsy.
"As mandated by the relevant AU instruments, council decides to suspend the participation
of Egypt in AU activities until the restoration constitutional order."
Egypt's new interim leader Adly Mansour has dissolved the upper house of the Egyptian
parliament,... which was mostly dominated by Morsy's supporters.
Morsy and some other senior members of the Muslim Brotherhood remain in detention.
