Have you ever read a book that just
makes you think? I recently read "33
Revolutions" by Canek Sánchez Guevara and
it was definitely one of those books. I
rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
This book takes a look at Cuba and the
Castro communist regime. Tt tells one
man's thoughts on the unfulfilled
promises of the Castro communist
revolution. Tt also takes a look at the
daily life of the Cuban people. This book
is very short and it is written in a
lyrical style. It is narrated by an
African Cuban man. This man throughout
the book compares his life and the daily
life of the Cuban people to a broken or
scratched record. While I did feel moved
by the story about the halfway point, I
did find it very hard to get into. In my
opinion the characters didn't feel fully
fleshed out; they felt almost a little
two-dimensional. There is also this
monotonous tone to the novel and I
don't think it was done unnecessarily.
I think this tone was done intentionally
to allow the reader to feel the despair
and lack of hope for the future that the
Cuban people have. As an American this
was an eye-opening look and to why so
many people from Cuba have risked their
lives to come to America and search of a
better life. I recommend you pick it up
and give it a read it was very short and
it was a very eye-opening book. It's not
one I particularly enjoy the reading
experience, but I don't think that you
are meant to enjoy the reading
experience. Please subscribe for more
