Hello everyone!
Today's idiom is: go all out.
Go all out.
Alright, so let's think of a situation that we can imagine in our heads to try to understand the idiom, 'go all out,' alright?
So, let's picture a man and he's trying to think of a plan for his anniversary, right?
So, he's thinking of many ideas and as he makes a decision, the ideas goes out, right, and it's gonna make the plan.
Right, so he thinks, 'Okay, buy chocolate,' and this idea goes out and, 'Reserve a place for dinner,' it goes out
and, 'Buy flowers,' go out, 'Get jazz concert tickets,' goes out.
Right, so he's going all out.
Yeah, all his ideas are going out, go all out.
Alright, so let's try to think of this image as we listen to some examples.
Did you go all out for that Halloween costume?
Yes, I dressed up as a witch and even had the black cat.
Alright, so she went all out on her Halloween costume.
Maybe it was really, really extravagant and lots of details and a hat and a broomstick and green make-up and a black cat.
She went all out.
She used all of her ideas, maybe it was expensive, she went all out.
Alright, let's listen to the other example.
I heard your friends went all out to plan your birthday party!
Yes, they came and got me in a limousine, we had a surprise dinner at a French restaurant
and we cruised Yokohama Bay in a cruise ship. They went all out to make it the best birthday party!
Alright, so his friends used all their ideas and lots of money and they went all out.
They had a great plan.
Alright, so to 'go all out' means to do many, many things for something.
Yeah, to use all of your ideas, to use lots of money, to go the extra mile.
Yeah, if you're planning a birthday party, yeah, it's okay.
Cake and balloons and music, okay, that's a good birthday party.
But, if you want to go all out for your child's birthday party,
you need a cake, balloons, music, a clown, a juggler, a musician, a magician.
Yeah, you need many things to go all out, to be very extravagant, alright?
So, I wonder if you ever do anything and go all out on the plans.
Yeah, you make it really special.
I hope you try to do it sometime soon and use this idiom when you do it.
And I'll see you next time!
