Hello and welcome to the SharePoint training video.
I'm going to show you how to use a tasks area within
SharePoint.
Goals of this video tutorial include locating the
SharePoint tasks area, posting a new task, updating the
status of a task, and becoming familiar with some of
SharePoints task editing tools.
Upon logging into SharePoint you will be
brought to the home page.
For purposes of this tutorial, I will use a
SharePoint demo site.
Along the left hand side of the screen, you will find the
tasks link under the heading lists.
The tasks area allows you to keep track of work that you or
your team needs to complete.
Click on the tasks link.
All tasks are displayed in the main area, to post a new task,
simply click on the Add New item link.
A new screen will pop up called Tasks, new item.
Begin by adding a title to your new task here.
This is required indicated by the red asterisk.
Next, you have the option of noting if other tasks must be
completed before you can start the current task.
If there are any predecessors, you can add those here.
The screen also allows you to indicate the priority level of
the task, the status of a task, the percentage of the
task that is already completed, an area for
assigning the task to a specific member of the team,
and a description area where you can discuss the task in
more detail.
Note, that it automatically populates today's date.
If your task should start on a different date, be sure to
change that.
You also can add a due date.
When you are finished entering all of the task details, click
on the save button.
Your new task now appears on the main page.
To delete the task, cover your mouse over the task title,
click on the down arrow that appears to the right of the
title, and select delete item.
This and other functionality is also available in the list
tools navigation pane under the items tab.
To review or update a task posted in the main area,
simply click on the task title.
On the next screen, simply review the task details that
appear, and click on the Close button when you're done.
Or, click on the Edit item icon at the top of the screen.
If you click on the Edit item icon, you have access to all
the same functionality of the task that you
did when it was created.
When you're done updating the task, click the Save button.
