Good morning and welcome to the University of Louisville!
We're delighted to have you here this morning for our Summer
orientation program. This is an important part of what we're about and
and your transition from your high school academic career to your
college career. You're in for an exciting student's day and a half;
parents today. I know firsthand because, it's hard for me to believe,
but it was just four years ago, I was sitting right where you're sitting
going through orientation with my daughter, Jackie.
So the summer orientation is very important to us. It's a step in this
transition. And we're glad to have you here today. More importantly,
we're glad that you have chosen to come to the University of Louisville.
Over the last year, last couple of years, you and your families have had a lot of
decisions to make. You've had to decide what were you going to do with
your life after you graduated from high school. And the fact that you've
decided to attend college and continue your education is a great decision.
It's an important decision and we're glad that you made that decision.
We live in a changing world and a changing economy. And the most
important input into the production process today is brain power.
It's human capitol. It's what we know and because you've chosen to
come to the University of Louisville, we make a promise to you.
And, it's really more than a promise, it's a committment, it's a
covenant with you that we're going to do everything that we can do
to make sure that you have the opportunity to be successful at the
University of Louisville. So we make a committment to you that we're going
to do everything that we can do to make sure that you have the opportunity
to be successful. We can not guarantee that you will be successful.
Because when you come to the University of Louisville, you become
part of our family. We become one. And you have to do your part.
So we're excited that you're here. I'm excited; already looking forward to
Welcome Weekend in August, seeing you back on campus.
We'll have our convocation. Parents, my wife and I host that
on the Friday evening of Welcome Weekend. We host a parent's reception
over in Grawemeyer Hall. It's right after a picnic for all the students.
We look forward to seeing all of you then. And we look forward to a great
start of the Fall semester. Welcome to the University of Louisville
and go Cards!
