For the past two weekends, city employees joined me as I canvassed neighborhoods surrounding
the Wilcox Tunnel.
I knocked on door after door to ask the residents who live around the tunnel what would make
the most impact for them.
You see, Wilcox Tunnel is over 80 years old and it needs improvements.
The city has budgeted some funds to make improvements and as we develop a plan, it's important to know
what citizens want.
So I went door to door and asked.
I met some great people who were enthusiastic to share their thoughts on improving the tunnel.
They wanted to tell me about feeling unsafe as they drive or walk through the tunnel.
They wanted to tell me about the lighting, the trash, and the water that accumulates
on the west side of the structure. But most importantly, they wanted to be heard.
And I wanted to listen.
I will continue to listen. Over the coming years, as Mayor, I am committed to engaging
Chattanoogans on issues important to their everyday lives.
Because the only way to truly make Chattanooga a better place, is to listen to the
voices of our community.
