GRACULUS: My name’s Chris Dale. I’m a geocacher.
AGORI BERIX: Hi, my name is Lasse Lundström, also called Agori Berix,
and I'm from Sweden.
SUp3rFM: My name is Hugo Silva. And I’m known as SUp3rFM on Geocaching.com.
SISSI VOSS: When we searched for our first geocache,
we used the navigation device of our car.
And we were not successful at all.
BOSKO BIATI: But the geocaching virus got us infected.
HONEYCHILE: I think it’s the kind of thing where once you get into it,
you’re just not going to stop.
It’s a sport. It’s a hobby. It’s an addiction.
TIFFANY: I’m Tiffany Salesky and I am the Volunteer Coordinator here at Groundspeak.
The geocaching community has more than 400 volunteers around the world.
They represent 40 countries and 26 languages.
SISSI VOSS: When we were asked to become Reviewers,
we felt it was time and that we’d love to support the game in an additional way.
TIFFANY: Geocaching volunteers are people just like you.
They love the game so much that they spend time that they could be outside geocaching
supporting the global geocaching community.
AGORI BERIX: For me, I see these roles as a great opportunity
to help out whenever I can, meet a lot of great cachers and be a part of a great and dedicated group of people.
TIFFANY: There are four different types of volunteers.
There are the volunteer Reviewers,
volunteer Earthcache Reviewers also known as Geoawares,
forum Moderators
and Translators.
Volunteer geocache Reviewers assess whether newly placed caches meet
current geocaching guidelines when reviewing and publishing caches.
GRACULUS: For example, here in the United Kingdom, you’re not allowed to put caches in archeological sites.
Assuming everything is okay with it, I hit the green button,
publish the cache, and then it’s available for people to go and find.
TIFFANY: If you’ve ever logged an earthcache,
that cache page was reviewed by a special type of volunteer Reviewer called Geoaware.
With the support of the Geological Society of America,
these volunteers are knowledgeable not only in geocaching,
but also in the science of geology.
The Geocaching.com forums are like a giant living room for the online global community.
Forum Moderators point people in the right direction
and help facilitate conversation.
If you are accessing Geocaching.com in a language other than English,
the volunteer Translators are the reason why.
Because our volunteers are people just like you, the time that they can volunteer varies.
SUp3rFM: The team of Reviewers for Portugal….
we spend I think over 20 hours per week reviewing all those caches.
GRACULUS: And for the whole UK it’s not unknown
to have 300 or 400 caches waiting for review at any one time.
HONEYCHILE: The main thing I’d like for the geocachers to know about it me is that I’m just a geocacher.
I want to publish your cache because I want to find your cache!
So feel free to be as sneaky as you like with your peers,
but be very forthcoming with your Reviewer.
TIFFANY: We would love for you to remember that volunteers are a dedicated group
who support and grow the game on behalf of geocachers everywhere.
Please be patient with them and realize that they have an important role to play.
SUp3rFM: Goodbye friends! Take care guys!
HONEYCHILE: As we say down south, buh-bye.
SISSI VOSS: Happy geocaching to all of you!
BOSKO BIATI: And don’t forget, It’s just a game!
SISSI VOSS and BOSKO BIATI: Goodbye
