Welcome to an introduction of RSS in world history.
Today we are going to identify what is RSS and why is it still valuable in the
Twitter world that we live in.
And how are we going to use it in world history. RSS stands for Really Simple
Syndication.
RSS is often described as your very own news feed
made for you and updated instantaneously
as your favorite website publishes new information.
One great way to think about RSS;
think about RSS as your own personal subscription to a magazine
that gives you articles on everything you enjoy
or want to know about. However, instead of waiting until the end of the month to
read the new information
all the latest information from your favorite browsers
are sent directly to you ready to read. No more using bookmarks or visiting
your favorite web pages
many times throughout the day. Have all the information sent directly to you.
I've also found it's way easier to sort and save information
rather than the Twitter world that we now live in. In world history one of our main
goals is to examine current events with past historical events
we are studying, along with maintaining an informed role of the world we live in.
So much information is passed on every day and this is the easiest method to
keep track of it.
RSS is going to allow us to do that by sorting out the information that we need
and is most important and vital for us.
So now let's get started with RSS. We're going to use an app called Feedly.
So, log into your App Store search for Feedly
Ok, there you see it
up here in the left-hand corner, the little green box.
Go ahead and click free and install that.
Now that it is downloaded we're all set to go.
We can create individualized accounts using our school gmail accounts and
passwords.
Feel free now to sign in with your Google
Royals email address and password. Once you signed in or some other features
immediately of Feedly.
In the upper right hand corner you'll notice you have
three main methods to find information.
You have keyword, URL, or webpage
link and author. OK,
first type in New York Times and follow it or search by category.
This will be one of the websites you will have to follow for class. Once it pops up
and now we have the New York Times home page
automatically sending us instantaneous updated any breaking information
our new articles that are it is sending out. Another great option that feed the
provides
is searching by category. This is on the great ways that you can set up Feedly
to sort of
individualize the content that you want. So, not only can you have this
access for
great articles that we have for class, current events, and
major world topics. We can also individualize this.
One really nice thing about Feedly
is that it allows you to organize all your information in several categories
Notice here at the left you have a bunch of different categories to choose from.
That is really nice, especially for me as sort of a multiple platform user.
Not only do I have Feedly on my iPhone, my iPad, but also my laptop
so I'm able to breakdown my categories based on need, so
I have some stuff for like my master's program. I have some personal stuff.
I enjoy cooking, but than I also have news and sports. Stuff that I use
in class in world history, so if you notice guys you can use this in a ton of
different sort of avenues in your life and bring everything in one organized
place.
Also, in the app if you notice in the upper right-hand corner
you have a this little wand. This is sort of the menu that breaks down
once you sort of click on that wand
and gives you options as far as refreshing, marking category as read,
and how you want your stories to sort of show up or if you just want to go
visit their web page directly. Maybe access to more information that deals
with it.
The biggest thing to remember with RSS and Feedly is to
have fun. We're going to get the latest news that we can use
in class all the time just look for the little RSS symbol
right there
just know that wherever you see that our SS symbol you can download that
information in your feed the count
and they can all be uploaded right there for you hope you guys are some go
all-out search explore have fun
and get some late breaking news be ready to share it in class!
