Created by Richard Le Boucher,
Genotop works with fish, shellfish and mollusc hatcheries
and offers a service in genetics consulting.
I am a former engineer in agronomy,
with a major in aquaculture.
Then, I have worked in different companies
to understand what meant production.
Following this, I get a PhD in genetics applied to aquaculture
where I have learnt to optimize these breeding programs
and make genetics an advantage for hatcheries.
Technical and statistical tools, advices in selective breeding
allow aquaculture production improvements on three points.
First, the growth, but also resistance to some disease.
It is today one of the main challenges of the production.
And finally, meat quality, what will enjoy the final consumer,
like the lipid content, the color of the fillet, even the filet yield.
These are traits on which we can work.
Seeing what happened in bovine genetics,
Richard Le Boucher hope to fill in the gap existing in aquaculture,
in a context of global raise of seafood demand
When we will select the best individuals in a fish population,
we will take 10-20 good individuals in a million.
Whereas in bovine, your selection pressure
will be limited by the number of offspring.
This high selection pressure is a huge advantage
and make fast progress possible in aquaculture genetics
Hatcheries and breeders, Genotop clients
are based in South East Asia, South America and Middle East
