Interviewer: I'm sitting here on the rock with rock star Alexi Laiho. How's the summer going?
Alexi: It's going good, well we've been working the whole summer.
We toured in the States for a couple of months warming up Slayer.
From there we went straight to Wacken and then came straight here.
So we haven't really had a break, maybe someday. We can have a break in the grave.
Interviewer: Touring with Slayer...
Alexi: He was in the party mood.
Interviewer: Touring with Slayer has probably been very memorable. Tell us something about touring with those guys.
Alexi: I have to say that it was probably the best tour we've ever done.
Firstly, there were 3000 - 8000 people every *** night.
It was unbelievable. Suddenly I'm like "***, we're opening up for Slayer and I'm having shots with Kerry King". Sure was great, can't argue with that.
Interviewer: Are they really gloomy people? The guitar player has worn a shirt saying "I'll just hang myself".
Alexi: I'm guessing Jeff Hanneman. Or it could be either actually.
But they're really cool, honestly. Of course they're robust people but cool.
Interviewer: So they're really not scary metal monsters?
Alexi: They probably were scary at first, just because they're Slayer and that's it.
But they're cool and especially Kerry King hung out with us a lot.
But of course I can't publicly say that Slayer guys were nice, so let's say they were scary metal monsters.
Interviewer: Do you have some other unforgettable memory from the US tour?
Alexi: Well, I guess that the best ones are those that nobody remembers.
Well, we've been touring our *** off there anyway. We'll be there for almost half of the year.
Maybe the best thing was that we had our first US headlining tour in late 2005. And about 98% of the gigs were sold out.
Because it was scary at first to be in headlining position, we were wondering if anyone's gonna show up. But people came, that was cool.
Interviewer: When you formed the band could you've imagined yourself touring the States with Slayer one day?
Alexi: No way. Maybe we could have dreamed about seeing Slayer live one day.
When we had recorded our first album, we thought that if it sells 1000 copies we're satisfied.
Then suddenly it sold 50 000 and... everything's happened so fast that we can't even comprehend it.
Interviewer: Has this success somehow changed you as a person or are you still the same Alexi from next door?
Alexi: Well, people change anyway. I'm not the same now as when I was 18 year old, which is a very good thing for myself and others.
But I still don't think myself as a rock star and I'm not above anyone else.
Of course people change, according to how their life goes and what they do.
I'm sure I would be different if I didn't play in a band. So on the other hand I've changed and on the other hand I've not. That's how it goes.
Interviewer: What's happening in the autumn?
Alexi: Well we should work on the dvd and it should be coming out in October...
Is October the 10th month? Yeah!
And then... We have a few festival gigs, one gig in Japan.
Pretty crazy to have a single gig in Japan, but it's a festival anyway.
Then we do the European Unholy Alliance, and we'll also play in Finland. So Slayer is really coming to Finland.
Then we're gonna do another headlining tour in the States and we'll probably get back home for christmas.
And then we could have a break.
Interviewer: And then ham and rosolli.
Alexi: Hopefully. I don't really like rosolli, but ham *** rules.
Interviewer: But before that I wish you happy summer and thank you for the interview.
