The common properties of acids..
1. Turns litmus paper from blue to red
2. Reacts with alkaline solution to give salt and water
Beaker , Litmus Paper
Concentrated acid
Water
1. add a small amount of conc. acid to water
2.Put blue litmus paper , and notice that it turns red
May be it's not clear in the cam , but some of the attending students have noticed it..
Beaker
Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) -Or any base-
Extra info. : NaOH is used in the manfacturing of soap
-Becareful , it may burn your hands-
1.Add a small amount of water to Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) to water -as to dilute it-
We Can detect it by using Litmus paper
It turns blue litmus paper blue
* You can add an indicator Phenol Phthalyne , other example is Potassium Permengnate
Sorry to say we didn't have any at that moment..
We can neutralize this alkaline solution (i.e. neutralization reaction) by addning an acid , drop by drop..
At the point in which the concentration of the acid is equal to that of the base, it will be "Neutralized"
This is called the "End point of Neutralization"
