Announcer: The David Pakman Show at www.DavidPakman.com.
David Pakman: Welcome to the show. Big, big news from Louis over the weekend. Louis's
band, of course, Krakatoa, Krakatoa metal band, performing at the Metalympics here near
our studio in Northampton, Massachusetts, and I have to say, I went to this concert,
and Louis, it was... it was intense.
Louis Motamedi: Of course.
David: And we have picture... pictures... really, a picture, we have video. This was
four different metal bands performing, there was voting to be done, and then the winner
received something, right? Or it was just kind of a friendly gentlemen's win?
Louis: No, the winner goes on, it's like tournament style, the winner goes on to the next event.
David: Right. Now, were you... do you guys get nervous before these performances?
Louis: Yeah. I think most of the people in the band do.
David: Right. OK.
Louis: I do.
David: So this, by the way, this was at a place, it was in Greenfield, Massachusetts,
this was one of the biggest dive bars probably that I've ever been to anywhere. I mean, I'm
talking spanning multiple countries. You walked in, and everybody I was with immediately said
does it smell like BO to anyone else in here? And it really was permeating particularly
the area where the degenerate gamblers were just glued to the Keno machines, but really
throughout the place. I'm sure you picked up on it.
Louis: I don't know. I think I was focusing on my performance.
David: Very diplomatic answer from Louis, ladies and gentlemen. So I have some video.
This was-- this is cell phone video from the event. Now, mind you, we have not manipulated
the audio in any way.
Louis: It's terrible audio quality because it comes from a cell phone microphone.
David: Right. We know. I think the audience knows that.
Louis: I hope so.
David: But we have, it's basically just a close-up of Louis. So if you're just listening,
you'll be able to hear the full wrath of Krakatoa, but you won't be able to see Louis in action.
So let's take a listen to this. And I've got a volume control here, Louis, too.
Now, is that... that's the
singing we're hearing, right?
Louis: Yeah.
David: That's the singing.
[Music continues]
David: All right, so, Krakatoa. Jeez, Louis, domination.
Louis: Oh, yeah.
David: Did you... it was funny, there wasn't as-- there weren't as many stories behind
the songs at this particular show. Like at one show, you explained... the singer went
into detail about well, if you think you've had a bad day, at least your face wasn't chewed
off by fire ants, or something like that, but this time I only heard him say the name
of this song is "Safari Ants", and there was really no story. I like the story behind the
Louis: Well, when you're on a tight schedule and you have to try and cram four songs into
half an hour...
David: Yeah.
Louis: You can't really spend too much time talking.
David: Yeah, you can't go all Bruce Springsteen and, you know, rap to the crowd too much.
Louis: Right, right.
David: You have to keep it a little bit under control. Now, yeah, I mean, there's just so
many questions that naturally come up at these shows, including... [laughs] I mean, I don't
know. When you prepare for these shows, does the singer go all-out with the growling? Because
I feel like that would hurt his voice, if he's just constantly doing that.
Louis: No, he takes it easy for, you know, the two practices we might have right before
the show.
David: Yeah.
Louis: And yeah, you know, he tries to preserve his voice.
David: Right. Well, I think that's smart.
Louis: You have to.
David: Well, this is fantastic, Louis. The next concert, if you're in our area and you
want to go, I believe the next concert is May 13th at McFadden's Pub in Williamsburg,
Massachusetts, correct?
Louis: Right.
David: And that should be... that should be a hell of a show.
Louis: It should be completely crazy. It should.
David: Right. Will there be a mosh pit there? I almost got sucked in, when I was trying
to take video, somebody almost misunderstood that as some kind of a challenge to them that
I wanted to be pulled into the mosh pit at this particular show, but I was able to resist
and basically be dragged out of it.
Louis: I think there will probably be a good pit going at McFadden's.
David: [Laughs] Well, very good. In honor, by the way, of Louis's, of Krakatoa winning
the Metalympics and moving on to the next round, we have a special David Pakman Show
membership promotion, www.DavidPakman.com/Krakatoa. That's K-R-A-K-A-T-O-A, of course, the standard
spelling.
Louis: Just like the volcano.
David: So we've got a special offer going on. This is not... we're not going to mention
this online, this is just if you hear me say this, www.DavidPakman.com/Krakatoa, special
offer for membership.
Let's move on, Louis, I think, because we don't want to... we need to keep a certain...
we need to leave something to the imagination with these Krakatoa discussions, I think.
If we go too much into detail, it'll ruin the magic, I think, for some people.
