Hello, my name's Francis Muir
I'd like to talk very briefly about video and, in particular, YouTube, Google's video service.
YouTube has become hugely popular over the last few years.
Mainly due to the fact that we have much faster internet connections than we used to have
which means that all people, pretty much, can watch videos over the internet which they couldn't have done five years ago.
also, to a lesser extent we now have fast mobile networks such as 4G which enable us to watch video when we're out and about.
Video has always been a popular marketing tool whether it be TV adverts or cinema adverts.
Video provides a very rich, exciting and immersive message for our potential customers.
The advent of YouTube has meant that it has moved across to the internet now.
and is used widely by marketing professionals to get the message across
and, of course, the concept of the viral video has added to that.
Video can now be watched by millions and millions of people. A successful viral video will receive several million views.
The aim of video is to produce media that will interest and engage your potential customers
will put your product or service or brand in to a good light and will get your marketing message across.
YouTube's great for that. It's completely free. You can upload up to fifteen minutes of video
and if you register yourself properly with YouTube you can increase that, although to be fair from a marketing point of view
fifteen minutes is probably the most you want to upload without losing people's attention.
Of course YouTube has certain disadvantages. You have to bear in mind that your video is pretty much owned by Google
and they have the rights to place adverts and other media around your video however, of course, you can take advantage of that
to arrange some sort of revenue sharing scheme. A lot of people make their entire living out of uploading YouTube videos
and getting revenue from the adverts placed beside and within those videos.
Ok, let's get on and try creating a video and uploading it to YouTube.
