We decided to collaborate with the Forum on this important
project in Sub-Saharan, Africa, coz we saw this as an opportunity
to bring... Leadership, program management,
and other skills to bear what we saw as being a very,
very critical issue for health in the region.
I think that the major milestones in this project were, first of all,
the recognition and identification of some key business partners such
as Becton Dickinson and who are prepared to work alongside us in
providing leadership insights and skills to the members of
the Garnian [phonetic] Health System.
Then, secondly, the key milestones were obviously the way we were able
to work to each of the meetings that that ministry have had over the course
of a year to gradually see them learning from the insights that we
gained from the corporate partners but also getting to a rhythm
themselves in terms of meeting as a group of ministers focusing
on health issues in their country.
The main outcome from this project was the fact that we were able to put
in place a rhythm of meetings and discipline around collaboration across
the different parts of the Garnian Health System.
And from those collaboration and meetings they were able to
move the ball forward on some critical issues in their own
health system.
In terms of learnings that can be taken from this,
I believe that any of the health ministries in Sub-Saharan Africa
would benefit from an opportunity to learn some core management disciplines,
to learn from the corporate sector about how to create agendas, to create the right
kind of collaboration, the right kind of follow through on key programs,
initiatives, and discussions and to learn how to work together more effectively to
achieve important health goals.
