>> Shawn Michael: Hi, I'm Shawn Michael.
I have my 24 x 8 LED matrix over here; 24 columns by 8 rows,
controlled by a 417 decade counter, which controls these,
this transistor array, which actually controls all the rows.
And then, these are 745958 bit shift counters;
each one of them controls 8 columns,
and then I have the Arduino Uno,
which controls this entire board; everything on the board.
>> Cool. And you're, what kind of software do you have here?
>> Shawn: This is the Arduino Software package.
If, you use C to program the Arduino board.
>> Okay.
>> Shawn: And then I come over here and I type a message.

>> Wow.
[ Silence ]
>> That's cool.
Now, how long did it take you to build that?
>> Shawn: It took me 55 hours to solder all this together.
>> Wow. Now, did you design this or this come with.
>> Shawn: I found the schematic for 24 x 6 and I modified it
to do 24 x 8, and then I also had to modify the code
that came along with the schematic for 8 rows rather
than 6 rows, which I made an excel file
in order to help me with.
>> Okay, yeah.
>> Shawn: What I did in excel is I made an 8 x 8 matrix,
grey zero or off, and then red is 1 or on,
and then for each character,
I defined whether I wanted an LED to be on or off.
What I have up right now is a 0, the way you would look at it is
by rows, so this row correlates to that many, all those 1's
and 0's and then, once you combine all of them together,
you get this output down here, which I was able to copy that
and put it right over her into my program.
>> That's just basically your data.
>> Yeah.
>> [Inaudible] the program for that.
And that's what, when you typed into that text block, that's,
the program converts it to a particular binary codes.
>> Shawn: Yes.
>> That takes it into the.
>> Shawn: Everything I did in this Excel, I was able to bring
over and put right on my board.
>> Little more work and you'll have an LED TV.
>> Shawn: Yeah.
>> Yeah, very good.
Okay, thanks Shawn.
>> Shawn: You're welcome.
