The 2014 baseball hall of fame caps come out Thursday, but Tony La Russa does not want
a Cardinals logo on his, plus the hockey community comes together to save the life of a Bluesman’s
former coach and a new movie with numerous ties to St. Louis.
That and more today in The Sift. Welcome to The Sift.
I’m Gabrielle Biondo, filtering through some of the most talked-about stories in St.
Louis. Former St. Louis Cardinals coach Tony La Russa
will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in July, and although it is officially
not his decision, TheCardinalNation.com reports La Russa does not want a logo on his hall
of fame hat. He says he doesn’t want to disrespect Chicago,
Oakland or St. Louis, since they were all a part of his success.
The Hall’s decision on the class of 2014 caps is expected Thursday.
We’ll let you know if it’s logo or no-logo in the blog post below.
Meanwhile, Blues and other hockey fans are rallying around, and raising money for, a
former youth hockey coach battling leukemia. FOX Sports Midwest reports Blues defenseman
Kevin Shattenkirk and the hockey community are working to raise funds to help Shattenkirk’s
former coach fight the disease. A GoFundMe page has already raised more than
32 thousand dollars, but more donations are needed.

From hockey to basketball, congratulations to SLU mens basketball head coach Jim Crews
on his 400th career win! Crews’ accomplishment comes after the Billikens
took Duquesne, 76 to 72. Movie and history buffs… listen up!
The upcoming movie "Monuments Men” has a lot of St. Louis ties.
Not only does the movie feature St. Louis native John Goodman, but the St. Louis Post-Dispatch
reports, one of the real-life soldiers who fought to save the works of art from Nazi
destruction was a St. Louis native. Walker Hancock, who attended Washington University,
was part of the World War II unit sent to rescue masterpieces from the Nazis.
Hancock also sculpted statues in front of the Soldiers Memorial and the St. Louis Zoo.
The movie opens February 7th. Want more on these stories? Get links to all
of them right below this video. And don’t forget to follow RealTimeSTL on

Happy winter St. Louis!!
