Leadership has never been more important;
but it's never been harder.
We bring to the classroom a view of this new context,
in which you're now leading.
We translate that into what it is that leaders need
to ensure they're doing.
It's the difference between being good and being great.
This is not a one-week program, but over eight months
we actually have a chance of really helping people develop
the skill that they all would like to be better at.
We have a 360 right at the front and beginning of
the program where you get people assessing and
providing their perceptions of you, your boss,
your peers, your subordinates;
and so that gives you a base of how you're perceived.
You get a rounded view of who you are from other people's
perspective; which gives you an idea of what skills and
capabilities you have to try and improve and
that's a great starting point.
The way we've constructed the program is it has two tracks;
you take them into what sort of
I call my 9-Box Model of leadership, which says,
"Here is a model of what you have to do to lead."
To lead effectively, you have to articulate a vision,
you have to give meaning, and you have to have people know
what they're doing.
These are the nine things that you need to do
and ensure you're doing well.
What capabilities do you need in order to do that well?
It's no good to have a great framework if
you don't have the capability.
Those two models that we have come together beautifully;
one is what you do, and one is what you need to do it well.
We then start getting it really down to,
"Okay so what is your plan going to be?"
"What are you going to do?"
What we are trying to get them to leave with,
when they go back to work on Monday,
they actually have something in their mind that
they're actually working on.
Having a coach or an advisor is a really good thing,
in this case we have the coaching sessions,
where those are very qualified people
and can help you translate.
We typically look for people with about 10 or 15 years of
experience, of which a substantial part of that has
been actually trying to lead teams, lead organizations,
lead divisions.
It's designed around relevancy, and realities -
- that's here and now not that was 10 years ago.
We do have this academic all-star faculty here.
You know Rotman's ranked in the top five in the world
in terms of research production of our faculty.
What we see, kind of, in this program we have,
is this convergence of two ideas.
One is you actually can develop yourself as a leader
and the second thing is, for organizations to be effective
in the world, they need to be led.
