One of the important aspects of being a journalist, in whatever media that you're being a journalist
in, is situational awareness, around you. Having a sensitivity for, uh, the people,
the culture...but also being situationally aware about the world that surrounds you.
The journalist who does not understand the world is a journalist who is limited in his
capability. It's also very important for a journalism student to understand the interplay
between countries, peoples, how they inter-react. Because if they don't do that, understand
that, and are aware of that, then they're going to miss a story...or understand a story
differently, and I think that that is very, very important.
