Is it bad to lay down after eating? I’ve heard that it is good for you and that it
makes a lot of things worse.
It depends on if you were just going to lay down on the couch and watch TV or go to sleep
for a few hours.
If you lay down immediately after eating, the food in your stomach could rise back up
your throat. Putting up your feet could cause heartburn.
Taking a nap right after eating slows down your metabolism. That can increase weight
gain, though it is not significant.
Food in the stomach when you are laying down can put pressure on your diaphragm, worsening
sleep apnea.
In that situation, laying down after you eat is going to make you feel lousy when you wake
up.
There are other reasons not to eat before you lay down. Eating before you go to bed
makes you fat.
Eating late at night won’t make you fat per se. It is the habit of eating constantly
that is linked to obesity.
Overeating before you go to bed can make it hard to get a good night’s sleep, increasing
your appetite the next day.
True. Because if you don’t get enough sleep, your body compensates by craving sugar and
fat.
Which is why night shift workers are more likely to be obese.
If you have acid reflux, don’t eat at least three days before bedtime. When there is food
in your stomach, you are more likely to snore.
That makes it harder for your partner to sleep than you.
We need an app that says you ate this much, wait this long before you lay down unless
it is to watch a TV show.
I’m sure there’s an app for that. There’s an app for everything else.
