HP LinkUp enables you to use your HP TouchSmart to access other computers on your home network.
You can run applications and work with files that are on another computer without
having to transfer files between the computers with a flash drive, CD-ROM, or a shared network drive.
With your home network and access to the Internet already set up, you can use HP LinkUp to connect
your HP TouchSmart to other computers running Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, or XP.
This video explains how to install and use HP LinkUp.
First, you will need to install the HP LinkUp Sender software on the computers you want to access
on your network. The computers you want to access are called "remote computers".
A remote computer can be a desktop, notebook, or netbook.
Before you install HP LinkUp, you will need to be logged into a password-protected Administrator
Account on the remote computer. This ensures your PC connections are secure.
If you don't have a password setup, create one before installing HP LinkUp.
To open the Windows Control Panel, click Start, then Control Panel.
Click User Accounts and Family Safety, then click User Accounts.
Click "Create a password for your account".
Enter a password you will remember.
Type a hint that will help you remember the password. This hint should be meaningful
to you, but not obvious to a stranger.
Click "Create password".
Once you have the Administrator Account password setup on the remote computer, install the
HP LinkUp Sender software.
Open Internet Explorer. Go to www.hp.com/go/linkup to download
the HP LinkUp Sender installation file.
You can save the downloaded file to install it later or to install it on other computers.
To continue with installation, when file download window is displayed, click Run.
A software wizard guides you through the process -- just follow the onscreen prompts.
At the Welcome screen, click "Get Started".
It will take a few moments for the software to be installed on the remote computer.
Make a note of the computer name because you will need it later. Then click Next.
After HP LinkUp verifies it has found a valid password click Next.
If you get a password error, go back and recreate the password for the account
and then try this step again. If an InstallShield Wizard message appears, select OK.
Restart the computer when you are prompted to do so. Click Finish.
Now go to the HP TouchSmart PC, also called the Receiver Computer.
Start the HP LinkUp Viewer application.
The first time you open the HP LinkUp Viewer, you are prompted to set your update preferences.
Select one of the options, and then tap Done. HP recommends that you check the "Download and install automatically" option so you can
receive the latest enhancements for this application. Tap "Get Started".
Tap "I have installed HP LinkUp on my remote computer(s)".
HP LinkUp scans the home network and displays a list of names showing connected computers.
You need to know the name of the computer you want to connect to.
Select the remote computer name from the list.
If the scan does not detect your remote computer, tap "If you know your remote computer name click here".
Type the computer name, and then tap "Connect to my remote computer".
If at this point HP still cannot find the remote computer,
make sure your home network is set up properly and the TouchSmart and remote computer are both connected to the network.
Once you've connected to the remote computer, type the user name and password for your remote computer,
then tap "Login to access HP LinkUp Viewer".
If a different user is currently logged on to the remote computer, you'll get an
error message; otherwise, this connects the remote computer to the HP TouchSmart PC.
Once you are connected to the remote computer, you can use the HP LinkUp icon on the Windows
taskbar to quickly and easily switch between the TouchSmart desktop and the remote computer desktop.
Notice that when you connect to the remote computer the screen goes black.
You can now access files and software on your remote computer just as you would if you were using it directly.
You can watch videos or listen to music,
enjoying the excellent screen resolution and sound from the HP TouchSmart.
You can Copy and Paste files from the remote computer or edit files directly
on the remote computer using the TouchSmart.
Be aware that when clicking the X button to close an open
file or window, you may be clicking on the button
to close the connection to your remote computer.
The HP LinkUp Viewer Options page
provides additional functionality. The connection tab shows you which
remote computer you are connected to. If the remote computer
goes to sleep while you are connected to it, you can send a CTRL-ALT-DEL command
to wake it up. The settings tab allows you to enable the Copy and Paste
feature between your two computers, as well as to mute sound from the remote computer.
so audio doesn't play on both computers. The "Installation file" tab
allows you to download HP LinkUp software
to a CD, usb drive, or shared network folder so you can install and run the program
from other remote computers. The Updater tab allows you to change your HP LinkUP
software update preferences. HP recommends that you check the "Download and install automatically" option
so you can receive the latest enhancements for this application. The Troubleshoot tab provides diagnostic tools and

Tap the "Run Diagnostics" button to automatically troubleshoot connection issues. Tap the "View Documentation" button
