Crystal Wilson: It’s no secret that many Columbus State students want to transfer directly
to Ohio State. Under the new Preferred Pathway program, the avenue to an OSU bachelor’s
degree will be easier than ever.
Dr. E. Gordon Gee, Ohio State President: The front door to the American Dream is the
Community College
With dozens of Columbus State students and staff on hand, OSU President Gordon Gee joined
Columbus State President David Harrison to announce details of the new transfer program.
Dr. David Harrison, Columbus State President: One of the key principals that we landed on,
was in order to eliminate uncertainty, and to try to create a predictable pathway for
students in our region to earn a bachelor’s degree, is to leverage a guarantee of admissions
for Columbus State graduates to transfer to Ohio State.
Dr. E. Gordon Gee, Ohio State President:
Students will be the big beneficiary. They will benefit from a clear path, they’ll
benefit from opportunities, they’ll benefit from unprecedented cooperation, and they will
benefit from the ability to have choice that is almost unprecedented in this country.
The Preferred Pathway program has been in
the planning stages for months. And while it’s designed for new full-time students,
current students will still see some benefits. For instance, they’ll be able follow the
new specific coursework pathways designed for about 80 different majors.
Pierce Freshwater, Columbus State Student: I think its really cool, its a great opportunity
for Columbus State students. Having acceptance at OSU after you graduate here is really awesome.
Bethany Estep, Columbus State Student: To
have the opportunity to do most of my basic classes here, then be able to transfer on
to Ohio State, I think that is a really great opportunity, and very cost effective for the
students.
Additional benefits include dual advising from both schools, unique orientation from
OSUs First-Year Experience, and access to Ohio State’s library system and other services.
The first Preferred Pathway students will begin Autumn Quarter. Specific details on
the program and how to enroll can be found at cscc-dot-edu-slash-pathway. (www.cscc.edu/pathway)
