You have the Mirena IUD and now you’re hearing reports of serious side effects. Well today
I want to talk to you about one of those side effects, uterine perforation. Hello. My name
is Jessica Vertullo and I work at Parker Waichman. Uterine perforation is a serious, life threatening
condition which usually requires immediate emergency surgery. Perforation often leads
to other serious health consequences such as infection, infertility, and the need for
a hysterectomy. Women who have reported perforation have reported symptoms of abdominal bleeding,
abdominal pain, fatigue, pelvic infection, and pregnancy. Perforation of the uterus can
occur when the Mirena is being implanted, but there have even been reports of it migrating
from its original position while it’s inside. In the most serious cases of uterine perforation,
reports have indicated that the IUD device actually travels through the uterine wall
into the woman’s body. We have seen cases where they were found in the woman’s hip
and even her chest cavity. So why do you need to know this? Because you may have the Mirena
IUD and be suffering from some of these symptoms. So here’s what I want you to do next. Give
me a call at 1-800-800-9797. I answer questions like this every day. Again, my name is Jessica
Vertullo and thank you for watching.
