ok. whatever.
hi this is an album review of The Gaslight Anthem's second full-length
album The '59 Sound. The Gaslight Anthem is an American punk rock band from New
Jersey that stole my heart when they released The '59 Sound. The Gaslight Anthem's sophomore
album was released in August of 2008 through SideOneDummy Records and with
this album, The Gaslight Anthem gained a lot of new fans myself included. To me, The '59
sound is a fire cracker of a record from the lyrics to the melody to the concept
who it really is an impressive record and I can see why this put gas light at
them on the map
most of the tracks on this album have fasted mid-paced guitarists and
SuperDuper catchy lyrics with songs like great expectations the 59 sound meeting
by the river's edge and the patient ferris wheel
these songs are cars driven and it sort of reminds me a little bit of songs from
watchmen there are also tracks on this album that features Brian Fallon's
writing triumph such as in Miles Davis and the cool
lyrically i love how he writes about love and youth and nostalgia without
being too over dramatic and some of the verses are kind of poetic for me which
is really nice
another thing that I really appreciate about this record is the way the musical
instrumentations come together in songs like even cowgirls get the blues and the
backseat where some sections of the songs are we
only in tens and explosive i love how these instrumentations also complement
Brian Fallon's passionate vocals in the second chorus of even cowgirls get the
blues where everything is in tens and the level of emotion is just really high
we have brian's desperate boys sort of reckoning and we have many on the drums
kind of going crazy on the symbols and the bass drum and then we have Alex
bringing some Alex was Amelia bringing some very blue sea
licks and Alex Levine on on the base basically thickening things up of this
this track really stood out for me on this Apple and I can't get over it but I
think the best moment on this album is here's looking at you kid
which starts off with an acoustic guitar and brian with his local register which
sounds like he's doing a puppy dog eyes while seeing as the song progresses
you'll hear the rest of the band softly in the background and slowly diminishes
as the song reaches the end leaving us with the acoustic guitar and
Lions sorrows lyrically I think this is the saddest among the tracks on 59 sound
where Brian sings about missed opportunities and disappointments this
song also departed from the verse chorus form
here's looking at you kid used a variation of a b8 structure which
coincidentally was a very popular structure and fifties overall I think
this album is nothing short of amazing the tracks really work through the theme
set out by the title of this record i really find it cool that most if not all
of the songs on 59 sound have references to Audrey Hepburn Marilyn Monroe classic
cars and high-top sneakers and sailor tattoos basically the 59 sound is a
nostalgia inducing record if you want to listen to the 59 sound you can listen
for free on Spotify or you can buy their CDs or vinyls on amazon
