2008 OLYMPIC GYMNAST SHAWN JOHNSON WAS ON CAMPUS MONDAY NIGHT TO TALK ABOUT HER
BOOK "WINNING BALANCE" AND SHARE SOME OF THE DIFFICULTIES SHE HAS HAD TO FACE IN HER LIFE
SINCE RETIRING FROM GYMNASTICS. I do not feel I have a lot to teach, I just want to tell
my story and hope that they take something from it, but, more so, just anything is possible.
When I was growing up, I never thought in a million years I would be able to compete
at the Olympic Games, and seeing those young girls who are starting a sport or they love
playing the violin or they love math class, I mean, they have no idea what they are capable
of, and if they can be inspired to really go somewhere, then I feel, you know, that
I have done my job. DESPITE THE STEADY RAIN, STUDENTS AT THE LAMBUTH CAMPUS HAD THEIR SPRING
FLING ON THURSDAY. A PERFORMANCE BY SOUND FUZION AND FREE LUNCH HIGHLIGHTED THE DAY.
AND THE CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION HELD THEIR FIRST BASIC SPANISH FOR BUSINESS
OWNERS AND MANAGERS CLASS THIS WEEK. FOR A COMPLETE LISTING OF ALL THEIR OFFERINGS, PLEASE
VISIT MEMPHIS.EDU/CEI FOR THE U OF M MINUTE, I AM JOHN MILLER, SENIOR, FILM AND VIDEO MAJOR.
